Following this year's 48 hour animation challenge, we will be screening the animations created along with Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (1971 Gene Wilder version)!!
Quickdraw's Lockdown is an annual event where animators experienced and brand new spend 48 hours creating an animation from their imaginations. This year's theme is ABSOLUTE EXCESS, and the screening will be a Party of Cartoon Excess: THE EVERLASTING GOBSTOMPER - replete with giant candies, golden tickets, strange psychedelic visions, and plenty of soda pop and beer. There will be prizes, and there are sure to be characters from the film wandering around and making you feel like you are in a sugar-induced vision of plentitude.

SO after working whole month on 5 different projects I missed Pasha a lot. So yesterday I decided to make him happy and take him on adventure :)
After work and play a little I went to the show and then +Gord Birch brought me and Pashka downtown. We saw cool birdies and fishes and Pasha just loved Vietnamese spring rolls. Then on the way home we saw giant head and tried to climb it but officer told us, NO WAY!!! :) We took the train to the mall and did some shopping and Pasha looked so sweet and funny trying to read the magazine on the buss. He also promised , that he would buy me lots of houses that he saw in that magazine :)
Some things have the ability to open up our thinking in ways that change our worldview, make us redefine how we connect to the world and alter how we view the 'impossible'.
Miyoko Shida Rigolo puts in a performance that achieves just that. Balancing a feather, atop a stick, she builds up an intricate relationship of interplaying forces that in a broader social media community setting stand as an apt metaphor for the power of the relationships that unite us.
The 'weakest' amongst us has the ability to be a catalyst. bring in fresh insights, provide answers to questions that have been troubling the most able. If anything it makes the point that a community (and by association, a civilization and maybe our entire global human construct) is ultimately fragile, perishable. Easily destroyed when we fail to achieve balance, harmony, fairness and to protect the weakest elements in our midst.
I was a little sad today, so Pashka said : Lets go downstair mommy I want to paint with you. When we went down he said : I always can make you smile. He turned around put his thumbs to his ears and wiggled his fingers and made a funny noise. It made me giggle right away. So when we where finally in our craft room he drew this 2 paintings on the left. Pink frame is one of him making me smile by making a funny face, and second is of a person with a blue wing and yellow tail and funny hair like his Babusya (Russian Grand-mom)
So yes little monkey you can always make me smile :) I love you with all my heart ♥
P.S. Black framed drawing is when Pashka was around 1 years old :)
Spend another great day at my studio. Making fun creatures. There will be about 5 of them and a background for each of them :) in the end of my residency I will have my own show May 9th :) My first small but SOLO show :)
Time and hardship have erased her youth. Her skin looks like leather. The geometry of her jaw has softened. The eyes still glare; that has not softened. “She’s had a hard life,” said McCurry. “So many here share her story.” Consider the numbers. Twenty-three years of war, 1.5 million killed, 3.5 million refugees: This is the story of Afghanistan in the past quarter century.
Now, consider this photograph of a young girl with sea green eyes. Her eyes challenge ours. Most of all, they disturb. We cannot turn away.
So today I was finishing my monster at Telus Sparks . I had great 10 volunteers and I would never finish without them. Thanks a lot. Also more visitors helped me with it and had a lo of fun. Now it will go to Creative Kids Museum and will make a lot of people happy :D
WOOOOW What a day :) I got keys for my studio at Art Central , downtown Calgary. I will have it for a month and on first thursday of may will have my first solo show :) YYYYAAAAYYYY
Also today I worked hard on Wreck City project, we where given a basement to make it in to underwater room. We painted it , now the decoration part.
When I got home I got an email , that our animation C'est La Vie: The Chris Melnychuk Story got accepted to The biggest animation show
I've tried to do this for as long as I remember myself, I was shaking the egg and jumping, but it never worked. Now my dream came true and I will try this really soon :)
"THE greatest movie ever" by Pavel Birch If you wondering why there is no movie and just sound, it is like the awesome Kazimir Malevich painted a "black square" makes no sense to some but make such a great difference to others. Google Kazimir Malevich if you don't know what am I talking about :)
Was just Gooeling something for a friend. A shop in Riga , but I couldn't remember street name so I went to Google Earth and browsed the streets, I saw this and got sad. If you see there is a gamma begging for money, it is so Riga though. I know her she always had red head cover, not personally but I know that it is her regular spot, when she was younger she had a music box and she danced to it. She is fantastic, it is just sad that she is still there.
Reshared text: Stars in the Sky and Transmission Failed

A salute to mothers, everywhere. The photo shows a homeless mother in India preparing to send her daughter to school in the morning, while her still sleepy son clings to her.

+Gord Birch and Pashka was driving me to work, and we where talking about our car and how soon we won't have warranty, so I joked and said maybe it is time for a new car. When we got to my work and I went to kiss Pashka he said: Mom lets buy a new car?! I said, no honey as we don't have enough money, so my little monkey says: Ill help you to make money we can all work: I will draw, you mommy will paint, and daddy will take pictures, then we will sell it and get a new car :)
Made me smile so huge. Little guy but already tries to help. Maybe we should make a small gallery show to show all our work :) Birch Art :)
Last month I was collaboration with our local Science Center and they asked me to make this giant monster :) It is made with garbage and then old blankets on top and then wool. I was teaching kids hot to needle felt and then putting their work on a monster :)
