Let's see if we can start a discussion here TOPIC: iPhones VS Android EDIT Here is a link to this post so you can have it on the screen instead of just being on my profile. You can also open up any post from anyone by click on the time stamp to the right of the persons name on top of the post. https://plus.google.com/107446552448005649461/posts/5cYA6oDK2wo /EDIT
I want to use Google+ here to see if we can start a discussion. I don't want to see fanboys flaming other fanboys here. Serious discussion, serious talk, serious serious. None of that "iPhone FTW / Android FTW".
I wanna know why you think iPhone FTW or Android FTW.
Lets see if we can do this. If flaming starts and gets out of control, I'll just close commenting and just close the whole post.
If you plan on sharing this on your stream, please turn off commenting on your post so people can post their thoughts collectively in this one post here.
Requesting the ability to make your profile private & approving who gets to follow you
This will probably be the last post of the night because I am tired, but I've been seeing a few post from people asking for the ability to approve who gets to follow them.
If you are one of those people, I don't think you understand how the circles work in Google+.
In Twitter, if you set your profile to private, you would have to approve someone's request to follow you in order for them to see your posts (tweets).
In Google+, you can't make your profile private, but you can make your posts private so the public cannot see your posts.
When you think about it, on Twitter, when you make your profile private, most of the time, I think, it's so you hide certain tweets from certain people. Most of the tweets you wouldn't care if they saw or not. It is for me at least.
If you were to make all of your posts private, that is, not selecting public, it would not matter if someone is following you or not. That person will not see anything because they are part of the "public".
So by not choosing public, you are essentially making your profile private.
To "approve" someone and allow them to see your post, you would have to add them to one of your circles.
Adding them to one of your circles, or "approving" them does not mean that they will see all your posts though..... And this is what I mean when I said you aren't trying to hide all your post from the person you are screening.
Consider this. You and all of your friends are on Twitter... But so is your mom. You don't want her to see all the questionable tweets you have, or about to have. So you make your profile private. If she finds you and you deny her, she will wonder what is up. If you approve her, she will see what is up.
Well, on Google+, she can follow you, and you can private the post you do not want her to see. Just do not make the post public, select the circles you do want to see, an make sure the family circle is not selected.
I hope this helps people understand circles a little bit more and see that there really isn't a need to approve someone's following you.
They were gonna pay someone to write a bad story about Google+'s circles ? Even if someone took them up on their offer, if someone was to start writing crap about the circles, they would start to see how AWESOME it is. How would having the power to control how private you want to be a bad thing ?
*EDIT* This wasn't about the Circles in Google+. This was about a different service offered by Google. Here is the service they are talking about: http://www.google.com/s2/search/social
If you ever want to know what it feels like to be treated like a common crook ......
Go to the Shoppers Drug Mart on Seymour and Drake, and be helped by Gennette Ret-Davis. Not only will she do this in front of a crowd of people, demonstrating fine customer service to her employees, she will call the cops, giving you the full experience. Here's my story.
Yesterday, September 15th, 2011, I walked into the Shoppers looking for an exercise ball. My lower back has been acting up and I remember hearing great reviews from people using an exercise ball instead of a chair. I also remembered Shoppers carrying a selection of yoga equipment and exercise balls, so off I went.
I walked in the store and went straight up stairs to the health section. I b-lined to the health section, found nothing, so re-routed to the drug section. They have a section where they sell splints, bands, and other equipment as such, however, it is directly behind the electronic section.
Almost immediately, I was approached and asked for if I needed help. She was nice enough, so I said: "yea, I'm looking for an exercise ball, I remember you guys carrying them.".
She then turned over to Gennette Ret who told me they don't carry them anymore. No problem I thought, and made my way out of the store stopping to say hi to a couple of the employees I always say hi to when shopping there.
Mrs. Ret then begins to to say:
"You come here everyday, and everyday you never buy anything. Can I help you with anything?"
I didn't think anything yet at this point because I didn't think there was a situation. I told her "yea, exercise ball. Same thing 1 minute ago".
Her tone changes now as she tells me to go to another SDM and check there. She then asks me If I will be coming back tomorrow night, to which she added: "I will make sure to ask if you need help every single time you are here", implying I am only here to steal, infront of everyone!
What Mrs. Ret doesn't know is, I buy something EVERYTIME I am there. The night before I was looking for AAA batteries, she did come ask me if I needed help that night too. I told her no (because I know how to buy batteries), and she walked away. I found my batteries, paid downstairs, and left.
The time before that, when she came up to me to ask if I needed help, I told her I was looking for a USB hub. She looked at the wall I was looking at, then turned around and walked away. I don’t know what kind of helping that was, but she was extremely unhelpful.
I recall my very first encounter with Mrs. Ret. I was looking at those charging pad Shoppers carries. I was looking at the manufacturer's site on my phone to see if there was a case for my phone. She came over to see what I was doing and I explained to her. She then told me to buy a case for the iPhone. I told her politely that it would not fit my phone. She insisted I buy the iPhone case over and over. It seemed like she just wanted me to buy the iPhone case and get out of there. I don’t think she liked me from the beginning. It seemed like she just wanted me to buy something (even if that something will not be of any use to me), anything and just get out of the store... Not very helpful at all !
Everyone else at that location has been VERY helpful to me. But every encounter I’ve had with Mrs Ret has been the extreme opposite. I’ve never in my life been so insulted and humiliated. I have no idea where she comes up with the notion that I do not buy anything. Not only has Mrs. Ret not been helpful at all, but she made it a point to humiliate me infront of a crowd of people, blurting out lies and wrongful accusations in public, displaying great customer management skill infront of her employees. I love how she is the head of the location, and this is how she shows her employees how to handle a customer, a paying customer, whom she accuses of stealing from the store. She didn’t say out right that I am there to steal, but it was very well implied that that was the only reason I am there. It never occured to her that I am actually there to buy something. Maybe if she actually helped me, she would know that I actually buy something everytime I am there.
If you ever want to know what it feel like to be treated like a common crook, go to the Shoppers Drug Mart - Liberty location on Seymour and Drake, and asked to be helped by Gennette Ret. She will go out of her way to make you feel like a low life piece of scum.
Thank you Shoppers Drug Mart for hiring / employing such wonderful help.
Please re-share this to help spread the word. Such helpful service needs to be recognized.
I haven't seen this talked about ever (but then again I don't know what it's called), so I just wanted to share one of my favorite Gmail tips with everyone.
It's a very useful way to sort, filter, and track where all your random emails or spam is coming from.
I call it tagging, but I'm sure there is another name for it.
RESHARE: WOW. Imagine what that line would have been like if Google+ wasn't invite only ! ...
click on the picture to comment, so it will show up on the original post ! Edit Actually, I re-activated comments to this post for people who want to comment to me or something.
Reshared text: Google Plus User Reach 10 Million in 16 Days .
I've created two Android circles for my sharing/viewing pleasure. I know a few Android owners and one soon to be Android owner (cough... +Dan McDermott ... cough).
I have one circle for folks that posts Android news often. I stick them in my Android (N) circle, so I can click on it to read what's going down in the Android community.
My other Android circle, Android (F), is for people that are following me back so I can share with them stuff I find interesting that has to do with Android.
I usually have two seperate circles for each circle I make so I can keep track of who is following me and who is not. I find it makes it easier to follow who I've been interacting with.
Anyways, I'm constantly browsing the inter_web_, reading up on the latest Android news and I wanna share !
So are there any Android fanboys (DroidHeads) that are following me, and want me to stick in that circle ?
You don't have to comment on this post for me to get the point. You can share and/or +1 too and I will know to add you.
Cheers !
P.S. If you share a lot stuff related to Android, leave me a comment and let me know to check out your profile. THANKS !
I highly recommend this to everyone who is all about security and all that !. My email was hacked a while back, so I had to step up the security a knotch and use this lovely service !
I just made a comment explaining to someone how to watch shows on Hulu.com outside of the United States, so I figure I make a post to share with everyone following me. Sharing is caring.
Hulu is a great site. Ever since I've found it, I've cancelled my cable up here in Canada, and just watch all my favorite shows on Hulu. There are even shows I've never even heard about, so I makes for hours of watching. Unfortunately, people outside the states can't watch it, with out jumping through some hoops. Here's one of the way I use to watch Hulu. There's another way that involves alot less work, and with out a need to download anything, but setting it up is alot more work.
First you will need to download a VPN The one I used that has not failed me is HotSpot Shield. You can find it here at: http://hotspotshield.com. Download it and install it. CAREFUL when you are installing it though. It may ask you to install a bunch of crap on your computer, so don't go all trigger happy and keep pressing NEXT NEXT NEXT. You'll want to read why you are pressing next to opt out of any malware it is asking you permission to install.
Third, connect to Hotspot Shield Hotspot shield will install a little icon in your task tray (bottom right corner). When off, the little shield icon will be red. Right click, and select connect. A browser will pop up and show you the status. After it connects, the icon will turn green in the tray. You can close the browser then.
Forth, start Hulu Desktop Sign in, and start watching. You can watch from the browser as well, but Hotspot shield, when connected will display an ad at the top of the browser. Occastionally, there will be a few popups tabs behind the current viewing tab. It can get annoying, so just close all the browsers you have open, and enjoy whatever you're watching on the app. The app is way better anyways.
I just showed +Glen Jones this keyboard, and it changed his life. Maybe it will change everyone else's too. This is my #1 most used, must have app on the Android. I've tried them all before. Used Swype before too, but it kept predicting the words all wrong. I didn't make any spelling mistakes, but I would type sentences that never made sense.
This is for all my Linux users and abusers out there (especially the Ubuntu crowd)
What do you think ? Ubuntu by default does not enable the root account. Instead, you have to use the sudo command to perform whatever you want as root.
What do you do ?
Be a (wo)man, enable root, and move your home to root ? or Play it safe, leave root disabled, and just use the sudo command.
I know some programs won't run as root, like TOR, so you could you run in to some problems trying to figure it out, but it's your own personal computer.
I understand why you would want to leave it disabled in a business environment, but it's your computer, just like if you had an Android phone.. it's your phone.
If you don't know what rooting is, think of it like this:
Your phone, like your Buntu box, is not using the root account. A "root" account is like the equivilent of an "Admin" account. You can't perform all the commands you would like to with out a root account. So currently, you are logged in as a user, iike if you were to go to work and log into the work computer there.
So enabling root, would be like logging in as the Admin on your own computer. That's why people root their Android phones.
What do you Linux Junkies do ?
(Wanna be notified when ever I post more Linux stuff like this? Let me know, I'll throw you in the "☑ Notify" Circle. In it, & don't want it no more? Let me know and I'll move you to the "❒ Notify" Circle)
One of the awesomeness of swidtkey-x, yes I said awesomeness, is it's prediction.
SwiftKey learns the way you type from you SMS's, Twitter, and Gmail. It can then predict what you are typing to type even before you hit a key. This makes it very useful because it can correct all of your misspelled words.
I decided to just keep selecting the predicted words and see what SwiftKey thinks I want to say. This is what I got :)
How many of you are interested in signing up for Amazon App store ??
You get a free paid app a day, but like Hulu, it's not available to us super awesome Canadians !
Also like Hulu, there is a way to get at it. So I'm just trying to get a feel for how many people would be interested in signing up for Amazon App store to see if it is worth while for me to write up/film & edit a tutorial piece.
Best Damn Gmail Tip is the Whole Wide World & Then Some !!!
I shared this a long time ago. But since then, I've gotten a crap load more people circling me. Also... There is still a lot of people that still don't know about it.
So ..... Here it is again.. The best damn Gmail tip. The best thing since sliced bread !
Warning Warning !! You for yourself a #rant coming up!
I'm tired of hearing people saying Ubuntu is for noobs! Why? Cause they tried to make it an easy transition to target the group of Windows users looking to switch?
Or is it because the install is stupidly easy to do?
Maybe it's because the apps come all patched and aren't vanilla ??
Maybe it's because of the stupid amount of apps (I know, I sound like an iPhone fanboy).
So just cause them folks choose to use whatever flavor of Ubuntu it is, make them a noob ? Cause they don't wanna bother with all them extra step just to install something ??
So just cause we don't choose the hard road makes us a noob?
What are you haters gonna do when it's raining hard outside, you're stuck with out an umbrella, and your friend rolls by and offers you a ride??
"No Thank You !! I think I'll just make my way home on this pogo stick, blind folded, and backwards.. PSHH.. stupid car driving noob !!" ??
EDIT No.2 BTW ! Other circles I currently have set up to send out notifications are: ☑ Notify [Geeks] ☑ Notify [Android] ☑ Notify [FyF Videos]
If you want in on those too, let me know ! END EDIT No.2
I'm really enjoying the Linux talk I've been having on here, so I wanna make a circle.
This will be a notification circle, so you will get a notification on the top right corner when I make a Linux post (Or email, if you still have that option on)
Anyone want to be thrown in this circle which has a cute mascot ??
Edit Actually, I'm gonna make two circles. The other one for people who posts about Linux stuff who don't wanna be notified.
Anyone out there post alot of Linux related stuff ?? If you got a (Notify) Circle as well, throw me in there. End Edit
I remember seeing a few posts around G+ asking people how they can share a photo from their album.
In the share window, when you click on the little add photo icon, your only choices are: Add Photos (which allows you to upload a photo from your computer) / create an album / From phone. There isn't a choice to add from your album.
Here's what you need to do ! Go into your albums, and open up the album where the photo you want to share is located.
On the very top right hand corner of the browser, to the left of the settings icon, is a small share box. Click on it to expand the window
With the window expanded, click and drag the photo you want to share into that share box. The photo will be added to that box for you to share.
Sign up, install the app on your computer or phone, and that way, the folder wll appear on which ever device as if it were on there locally... like MAGIC.
Send me a private post or whatever with the email you used to sign up and I will start sharing with you.
What's you choice of weaponary ? Waht's your poison ? What's your favorite chat IM ??
Here's mine from left to right.. Mcabber(running in Byubo) - I like running it in Byubo, b/c then I get all them stats at the bottom of the terminal Pidgin Jitsi
I like them all cause they all support OTR encryption natively, with the acception of Pidgin, which is an addon.
You guys know of anything out there I should check out ?
PS: if you are a hard core geek, and wanna check out another terminal IM client, check out centerim
(Wanna be notified when ever I post more tech stuff like this? Let me know, I'll throw you in the "☑ Notify" Circle. In it, & don't want it no more? Let me know and I'll move you to the "❒ Notify" Circle)
I hate this damn thing. I have to use it to prick myself to draw blood in order to test my blood glucose level. Now, I know the shit doesn't hurt. I've gotten shots before... That's not the problem..
The problem is, I can't do it to myself !!! It would be no problem at all if someone else did it for me. Like I said, I know it doesn't hurt or at least, I don't think it hurts. Someone needs to invent one of these pricking devices to have a surprise timer. That way, I can push the button, and won't know when it's coming. I'll have no problem with that. It's just I can't do it to myself. I dunno why... I just can't
Spent the last 2 hours trying to prick myself.... HORRIBLE.. I know..
Surprise timer... someone think about it ... I'll buy it =o)
RESHARE: For everyone else out there thinking of doing this. Let me add this....
If you are real big on using a different name, well then you were probably smart enough to sign up for an email account with that name. If you were planning on being this whole different person online, signed up to Google+ with this whole different email, other than your real name... ....... Then why are you admitting it ? No one told you to tell the whole world that isn't your real name.. I mean, you've already made an email just for this alias.
I use a different name for different purposes, work, blah blah, not important. I have an account for each name.
IF you haven't made an email for this alias that you wish to live by, signed up to Google+ with an email with your real name... Well then I don't see what the big deal is about having to use your real name.. you already used it to sign up...
Either way, no one told you to admit anything. What is Google going to do? check your ID ? Cops can't even check your ID with out a reason !
And if you are going to argue that you are admitting blah blah cause its the right and moral thing to do... WELL B*$#H, YOU'RE LYING ABOUT YOUR NAME !
just saying..
rant over
Reshared text: I have been at last made aware of Google+'s requirement that G+ users reveal their "real names". This wasn't to my knowledge in the ToS I read and agreed to when I registered for G+, which I admittedly scanned, but which looked like every other Google ToS I've read; I never saw the G+ specific "Terms of Content" until after I had registered (shame on you Google).
I cannot abide that requirement, therefore, I will probably shortly be deleting this account.
The requirement for use of "real names" is sexist. The practice of using pseudonyms is enormously preferred by women, for purposes of safety, privacy, and leveling the playing field by making others take their words at face value. The requirement of the use of "real names" is privileged.
The requirement for use of "real names" is also culturist. There are peoples with the US and without among whom it is culturally normative to use different names with different social spheres. Whether it is bicultural people with both English names and names in another language (e.g. "Hebrew name", "African name", "Chinese name"), or artists with pen names/stage names, or even just those of us Scadians who are called something very different by our friends and lovers than by our families and neighbors, there are many subcultures with the US -- to say nothing of the rest of the world -- in which people do not have only one name and/or may have object to being expected to divulge such privileged information as their personal name online.
The very idea that one has one, real name is a parochial White, middle-class, American assumption. The idea one should have one, real name, to make everything all neat and tidy and obvious is colonialist thinking. The idea that one should get to enforce such a rule, paving over other people's cultural practices, in the name of stamping out criminals (spammers) is really, really gross.
One of those cultures, by the way, that this requirement offends against is "Internet user". Google, I've been on the internet longer that you have, and I'll remind you that the custom of using nyms on the internet -- born originally of limited email address namespaces at individual institutions -- was originally the predominant one. I preferred the internet that way. It had that much more privacy -- privacy, not security -- baked right in. For someone to be able to find you, or to recognize that you were the author of something, they had to acquire a privileged token: your nym. Nym-identity mappings weren't secret, but they weren't flaunted; they were circulated in communities, especially face-to-face. They were drapes across the windows of the virtual world. They made that world more decorous in many ways, and that is why I keep to spaces in which that is the norm.
I had so hoped that G+ would be one such space, providing an alternative to Facebook which for all the foregoing I effectively do not and presumably will never use.
The requirement for use of "real name" also prevents the use of G+ for creative purposes such as role-play accounts. The application designers of G+ might want to talk to the folks at Dreamwidth for a discussion of some of the creative, legitimate, prosocial uses to which pseudonymous accounts are put.
It is my hope that Google will see the error of its ways and change its policy in this matter, before I delete this account. Livejournal and Dreamwidth would no doubt be happy to explain how else one might limit spammer accounts, if that is indeed Google's motive.
This post is public. Pass it on as you see fit. After all, as things stand, you won't have the opportunity to read it here much longer.
I found the stupid fuck that mugged me the other day..
Anyone with an unlimited SMS plan wanna help me SMS bomb the fucker (who took everything from me, all so he can stuff some shit up his nose and get high !!) for a bit ?
It's 0630hrs right now, so it should be a pleasant surprise for him =o)
Let me know if you help me out so I can put you on the I owe him/her a favor list.
What's up new people who have circled me... What's going down? Or.. In some places, I think they say, "what you saying?"
Help me decide what circle I should put you in. In on word, how would you describe yourself? That's usually the circle you'd be in.
I also have 3 circles I add to public post so everyone in it would get a notification. Let me know if you care to be notified about these related posts. They are:
Geeky Tech related post circles. Android related posts & Get notified about a new Fuck Your Face video circle.
I know you are all jealous of the Chrome 2 Phone app we have which allows us to send whatever page we are on to our phone. If you don't know about it, what the hell is wrong with you ? Get it here: http://goo.gl/6YllU
But there's an version of that for the folks with out an Android. Found it while I went Chrome Extension happy and pretty much installed everything there was for Chrome Canary.
Anyways, here it is. It's called Site to Phone, and it supprts: all the iDevices, Android phones, Web OS, BB running 6+, and all Windows Phone 7+.
If you are using one of those phone, go give it a try. Get it here: http://goo.gl/3uvAR, or the link below. I use my Chrome to Phone at least twice a day.
One of my earlier posts has got me thinking. Kinda took me on a trip down memory lane, and now I'm curious.
Which era are you old schooler from ? What do you remember about the old days ? What was your first computer ?
I remember my first computer was a 486 DX2, 66mhz. I started off with MS DOS. I forget what version, but I remember ended it with 6.22. I remember mucking around with all the versions of Windoze, starting from 3.1.
Played around with Warp for a bit.
I remember BBS's. I loved BBS's. I remember Renegade and Iniquity BBS systems. I ran Telemate and Terminate (?) BBS clients.Online games, messaging boards. ASCII art. Wow.. memories..
Anyone else find that the site is extremely laggy ? I uploaded all my songs yesterday, but I don't see them on the site yet. I can see them and play them with the Android app though, just not the site.
I wanna go and edit some of the names but I can't do that if I can't see the files. I actually do see the files in the new and recent section, but clicking on it doesn't do anything. When I click on song / artist / genre sections, they are empty.
I'm thinking it's just really laggy and needs a little bit to update ???
[edit] added a part to the tiredness and added blurred vision [end edit]
I've debated making this post cause I thought it was a bit personal and I didn't want people to get the wrong idea and think I am looking for any kind of sympathy or whatever. However !!!!, I thought it was an important message.... so here we go. PS, before we go on, I am doing fine. Everything is great... No worries here.
You've might have noticed I've been a bit quiet and/or haven't been my coo coo crazy self lately. Well I've just recently found out I have Type 2 Diabetes and it's been making me quite bummed out lately.
Apparently because I have gout and am Asian, I was at greater risk of getting diabetes. I ignored all the signs and thought all the signs were explain by something else. I thought that cause I wasn't over weight, there was no way I could have it. It wasn't even on my list of things to consider... Yes, wrong.
I'll list all the signs I over looked and why I over looked them. Maybe it will make anyone experiencing the same to think about it, and go get checked out.
First thing I noticed was waking up with my arms totally asleep. It felt like I didn't have any arms or I didn't have any bones in my arms. Felt like jello. I just thought it was because I slept with my arms in a weird position.
I didn't notice at the time, but. I would wake up extremely thirsty. Like, there was no way to make the feeling go away. I would drink tons, and TONS of water. Didn't think anything of it.
Then I would go number 1 alot more. I thought it was just cause I drank alot. Sometimes would be constipated too.
Tingling big toes apparently is another sign. I thought it was just gout.
Tiredness and feeling lethargic. Didn't know why I was so tired. It would be hard to get out of bed sometimes. Hated that. You know that tiredness you get when you finish a big turkey dinner?, food coma ??? Well imagine that 10x worse, you get 10x more tired after EVERY big meal. When I would eat, oh lets say, 2-3 small bowls of rice, I would start nodding off. I would be absolutely tired. I would nod off for about 10 minutes and when I open my eyes, I would be back to normal. I thought it was just food coma, but now when I look back, food coma from everything I ate ??? I t would used to only be pasta of carbs like that that made me tired, but now it's everything. Some make me more tired than others, but if I over eat, someone pass me a pillow =o)
Sometimes my vision would be blurred too. It's wasnj't like seeing doubles where you need to refocus your eyes. It was more a cloudy vision. Kinda like you are in a smokey/foggy room. You can see fine. Sometimes when I cook, I would wonder if I started a little fire or something cause I thought it was smokey in the room.
And.... Weight loss. I used to drink alot before. I'm talking a $200+ a day partying Booey. I stopped partying so hard and thought I lost all the weight cause I stopped drinking.. Nope.
That's all, or at least all I can think of now. I'll add more if and when I think of them. Hopefully this will make anyone experiencing what I did to actually think about it and go checked out. It's not so bad... Just gotta control your diet.
That's all, I'll bring back the D. Booey you're all used to now :-)
LOL. I love this new marketing strategy Google started.
They sent out a video out on youtube called Help your friends make the switch to Gmail. You can find it here: http://goo.gl/f6y0H
Here's the description of the video: http://www.emailintervention.com You've probably already improved the lives of your friends and family members by helping them switch to Gmail, but what about that one friend who still hasn't made the switch? It's time to take a stand and stage an intervention.
When you send out the intervention package to your friends, they will receive the video linked to this post. I found it absolutely hilarious because I was just trying to convince someone not long before I found the video, to leave Hotmail, and go Google.
I love the jab at the _"older email services" they make in the video.
I've started adopting the practice of writing up all my long posts on my blog (and then linking it here as a post) instead of writing it all up as a post on here. You can't really search posts for anything specific, so it seems like archiving long posts like tutorials and what not on a blog is a better idea ?
What do you guys think though ? Should I keep doing this ?
I plan on writing up all my Google+ tips on the blog soon too so it'll all be in one central place instead of having it spread out in my posts. It'll make it easier to find.... yea ??
*EDIT* Original I never really used my blog. I guess I'm just making an excuse to use it I guess =o) /Original
Edited I've never really put my blogs to much use before using Google+. I guess I'm just making an excuse to use it more I guess =o) /Edited
This is about my last post. I figure I share my findings with you guys just incase everyone thought the same thing.
Originally I thought I could filter what I posted so I wouldn't bombard everyone's stream with things they didn't want to see...
I was going to have a bunch of circles for the people I followed, and a bunch of circles to post certain things to certain people so they only get what they wanted to see. IE: if you didn't care about gaming stuff, you won't see it because I'll only inject it into the gaming circle.
Well, I see now that it doesn't work this way. I dunno why I thought it was gonna work. If I only post it to the gamer circle, and not have it public, only those people I put into the gaming circle will see it, true. But then no one else who is following me will see it unless I follow them too and throw them in there.
To truely filter all my posts, I would have to follow everyone that is following me and put them into all the certain circles.
If I made a gaming post and put it into the gaming circle, and also made it public, then everyone will see it, even those people that didn't want to see the gaming posts whom I put in a different circle... because it's public.
I totally thought it out wrong, and just wanted to share my findings with everyone else who were going to do the same thing. Looks like everyone is going to see everything weather they like it or not (except those post I choose to make private and share only with family)
Mini Player for Google Music, & you can use the media keys on your keyboard too !
I was looking for a way to be able to use the media keys on my keyboard to control Google Music. You couldn't access your Google Music collection through iTunes or Media Player. There are tutorials on the internet showing you how to set up Media Player to change your GTalk status to show what you are currently listening to, but nothing on how to access your library.
I started to write something that will be able to access the Google Music library, but then stopped when I found this wonderful mini player for Google Music called.... GMusic. Not only does it allow you to play your Google Music with out having a window or tab open, but you can use the media keys on your keyboard. Yea, it's THAT bad ass !.
Anyways, you can find the download link in my post below,
What WM do you guys use ?? I dunno which one I really like.. I keep switching back and forth, back and forth.. download new ones..
back and forth some more...
The only thing I really like about MGSE is the screen cast option.. That's the only thing !! I like workspaces... and Gnome3's workspaces confuse the fuck out of me..
MATE is cool. It's like XFCE, except.. with less widgets you can choose from to put in the panels.. A LOT less !!.. But it's like old school gnomey.. and I like that.
I downloaded XFCE just for the fuck of it.. That's what I find myself using more often out of the three..
Now.. I just installed LXDE.. and.. I think I like that more ??
I dunno..
What do you guys do ?? Not nessecarily with Mint, but what is all yall WM of choice ?? s
I would say KDE a little while back. but that shit is the equivilant of that one guy who comes to XMas dinner, and eats EVEYTHING.. in terms of system resources.
Something is wrong with my phone.. it doesn't charge ... unless i hold the cable a certain way ...
FUCK ! ... I read a few charging issues/problems with the #HTCSensation .. But I don't think mine falls in that category.. I think I have a bummed port...
ARGG !!!!!
Grumpy !!!
... and my GF slaps me in the face in her sleep when i try and kiss her on the forehead !
I sleep walk, she sleep slaps !!
Double ARGG !!
What should I do ???? (about the phone, not the slapper !)
hi. its d's AWESOME girlfriend here again. just wanted to say hi. and that he's a moron for keeping his g+ logged on. hmm lol maybe i should start a hang out and not tell him ... and see what happens.
How to sign up for Google Music Beta outside of the United States
*EDIT* I didn't show you how to download the Android Google Music App in the tutorial. If you want to know how to download it, leave me a comment or write me a private post with your email, and I will send it to you... or tell you how to get it. */EDIT*
Tutorial: How to set up permanently pinned tabs in Chrome
*/EDIT #2* If you use the right click / pin method, IF you close that tab, it will not be there again when you restart the browser. In the tutorial, even if you close the tabs, restarting the browser will still open up those tabs again.
Useful for if you sometimes want to close certain tabs to free up memory
So my tutorial is not that outdated. */EDIT #2* *EDIT* You can now pin the tabs permanently but just right clicking on the tab and selecting pin. I had problems with that method before where when I restart the browser, the pinned tabs would disappear. So this tutorial is now outdated, but if you are having problems with pinning the tabs like it did, use the tutorial ! */EDIT*
Just a little tutorial I made explaining how to setup permanent tabs in Google Chrome so every time you start your browser, all the apps and sites you have set up will open up in separate tabs.
I found it very handy having Chrome automatically open up Google+, my Gmail, and Tweetdeck every time I start the browser.
I think the Huddle/Messenger is stupid. The idea was cool, to have a group chat. I can see it being very useful when trying to organize things with a certain circle... That, I think is cool.
But they should have just made it GTalk just like the chat in Google+. Now we have a seperate messenger ? It's a messenger, but it's not GTalk ?? LAME !
I was thinking about the follow system Google+ currently has. I was thinking about those people who posts a crap load of things. Some things are useful, some things are funny, some things are just crap like the things you would post on twitter.
When you follow someone, you obviously find that person interesting and want to see what that person has to say. BUT, you might not want to see everything that person has to say.
I was thinking that it might be useful if Google+ has a system set up where the poster can set the topic/subject/category of their post. That way, when you follow someone, you get a choice to subscribe to certain categories of their posts.
So when you set up your profile, one would set up all the categories of their posts: Tutorials, Rants, Funnies, etc. And when someone elses follows you, they get a choice to see everything you post, or just certain posts you have depending on category.
It might make things alot less annoying if you are following someone interesting, who also posts alot of crap you don't care to see.
It'd be kind of like Hulu, when you subscribe to a show and you select if you want to subscribe to all shows, or just new shows. In Google's case you would follow a person, and select which categories to follow from that person.
On the other end of the spectrum, when you make a post, in addition to selecting the circles you want to post to, you would select which category you post would fall into.
I dunno.. It's just a random thought I just came up with. What do you guys think ?
im baaaaaaaaaack!only for a short time! :D did you know? that D makes fish lip/duckface (whatever you want to call it) when he is thinking? yes... yes he does. just a little fyi for all you guys out there. and you know. just so you guys know. im fuckin awesome. :)
Just wanted to share what I just found. I was pretty shocked to find so many flies.
I made a fruit fly trap early following directions found on the internet. It said you use apples, oranges and a piece of bread soaked in beer. It did not work. I mean, it worked, but not well.
Last night, trap number 2 was made, but this time, a piece of a banana peel was put in. That worked SOOOO much better.
If you are going to make a trap, use a banana peel !
*EDIT* +Stephanie F was the creator of the super successful, fruit fly trap which seems to just suck fruit flies in via a vortex of banana fumes !! +Stephanie F .. The F stands for Fly Hunter !
I wrote a little something on my blog because I felt it was too long for a post here.
But basically it boils down to, why are people complaining about how other people use Google+ to share things? They are the ones who chose to follow them in the first place. Why follow someone if you don't like it.
Anyways you can read it all in the link below if you have some time to waste.
Hey guys, wanna help me out & answer ONE question ??
I used the power of Google Docs and created a poll for my blog.
... Yea !!, you can do that !! (I ♥ Google ☺)
Anyways, it's a simple question for all you Android owners out there who have yet to root their phone.
Just wondering what is stopping you. Do you not know how?, scared?, you don't need to? Let me know. Visit the link below and check a few checkboxes to submit your answer.
I'm trying to figure something out for a future project.
Any of you out there still use Twitter? Have you completely abandoned Twitter the same day you gave up Facebook for Google+ ?
I was checking my Twitter accounts and to my surprise, there is still quite a bit of activity. But then I started wondering... do any of the 150-ish people following me on Twitter really read my tweets. Do they really care? Seems like a place you would share things you wouldn't want to share on Google+.
I think everyone here thinks the same way. I think thats evident when we all say something like: "leave those bathroom tweets for Twitter."
What do I think this all means ? I don't know really. I think maybe we all have a mutual understanding that Google+ is for those mature. I think we all have a mutual respect for the community. Because we respect the community we loiter in, we know, with out once ever told to do so or anything, to leave those toilet tweet in Twitter land. It doesn't even feel right to call them toilet posts. Toilet tweets > toilet posts... Just sounds more fitting.
Sure we may have our fun and post the occasional LOLz here and there. We can't be that tightly wound. Everyone has to be able to loosen up once in a while, but I think we all have this mutual understanding that posts on Google+ actually mean something. When you are about to share something, you think to yourself : "How important is this that I am about to share ?"
It's not a hard question, and we probably don't even realize we do it. But we weigh out the importance of the information about to be shared and decide accordingly where we will go about sharing it. If it is something of value, we'll whip open our G+ app and start typing. If it's something stupid, we'll open up our Twitter app, tweet, forget about it, and probably never check back to see if anyone responded.
We know it's stupid. We know it's useless... And we know those types of info belong on Twitter.
Not all our garbage posts will go to Twitter, and Twitter isn't just filled with garbage tweets. I will still tweet some sorta breaking news because I still go to Twitter to see why there's a police blockage at blah and blah.
Google+ has yet to be able to be used in such a fashion... Mainly because it lacks searching. I don't know if I would go to Google+ to search for breaking news even if they had a search option.
So I'm not dissing Twitter. I'm just noting that there's a difference in what people will choose to share in both communities.
What's the point of all this rambling ?... I have no fucking idea. I originally was just gonna share my Twitter accounts with you all and tell you guys to follow me. I dunno what happened. I just started typing and all this shit came out. I don't even know if it all makes any sense. I'm not gonna re-read it or anything. I'm just gonna post this the way it is, raw! "I'm hardcore like that !" LOL.
Anyways. My personal Twitter is @PhoTwittle and my FYF Twitter is @MyFaceDoesWhat. Gimme a follow if you like.
Sorry if my random blabbing killed a few of your braincells.
*EDIT #2* See my post Filtering my posts :: IT'S NOT GOING TO WORK I thought it out all wrong in my head and it's not gonna work out how I thought it was going to work out FAIL */EDIT #2*
*EDIT* This post is meant for those people who are are following me. By default, you'll be getting everything I post anyways. But if you don't care for certain things, I'll just put you in certain circles so you'll only get what you like. */EDIT*
Now that we've all had a few days to play around with this wonderful community, I think it's time to get back to our normal daily routine. I'll still occasionally post stuff about Google+ I find interesting, but that's not to only thing I find interesting in life.
So to make your life alot less annoying, leave me a comment below and let me know what what interests you. That way I can better share things with you and you won't see stuff you don't care about (like when I tweet on the can and tell you guys I'm on the can... Cause I do dumb things when I'm bored)
So let me know what you like so I know which circle to throw you in. Here's a list of circles I have already:
Google All the things I find interesting that has to deal with Google+ or Google. Similar to all the tips I've been posting so far.
Geeks and Techies If you are regularly on engadget or giz or etc, you'll want to be in this circle. The area is too broad, gonna be hard to explain, but I'm not going to post technical stuff like a new function that came out for Photoshop and how to use it.
Gamers Up up down down left right left right b a select start!
Celebrity crap What? Don't judge me.
Business world What's going on in the business world that I find interesting. IPO's, frauds, marketing, yada yada.
Things that make me laugh It may be totally stupid, it may be dark humor, but if it made me chuckle, it goes here.
Useless but interesting Stuff that have no added value knowing, but some how caught my attention and has made me spend countless hours looking up. Example: research showed that there is a direct correlation with penis size and difference in length of a man's pointing finger and his ring finger. Useless, yes. Interesting... Yes... Maybe. Hehe. Pretty pictures will go here too.
Vancouverites All things Vancouver.
Me ! My random thoughts, silly things my up to, sometimes stupid posts, sometimes... I dunno. I may make a post telling you I just had an awesome fart. I may rant. It's me.
Everything ! If you like everything I posted and you don't care.
That's it. Let me know where you wanna go or just say hi.
To all the Video editors, Graphic artists, & Music producers out there who use Ubuntu..
Edit:: For all you music producers out there, you should really check this out. I originally thougth the only difference between this version of Ubuntu and the original plain vanilla Ubuntu was the themes and applications pre installed. But there's a bit more to it.
It has a real time kernal. Basically.. it's the reason why producers would choose a mac over a pc - the latency.
Apparently, with Ubuntu Studio, it may even be better than what you can achieve with a Mac or a PC. This is what they said: Real Time Kernel - Ubuntu Studio uses the Ingo Molnar PREEMPT patched real-time kernel (for more information about the real-time kernel, take a look at the RTWiki FAQ). This helps to reduce the amount of latency, which is extremely beneficial for audio work. The low levels of latency that can be achieved in Linux with the real-time kernel can also surpass those available under Windows and Mac.
So... Check it out.. You might like it =o)
Cheers! End Edit
Did you know there was a Studio version of Ubuntu ???
Yea.... I just found out. There's a 11.04 version as well. It come's everything you need to do ever it is you want to do....
Cool use of circles on Google+ to create a mailing list
I just found a cool new way to use circles when making a post. You can use it like a mailing list and have people from a circle be notified of a post.
Streams can get pretty noisy, so it would be nice to be able to be notified of a posting. Now you can. Check it out !!
+1, reshare, comment, lemme know what you think !
Cheers !
edit BTW, if you want to be added to my Android (F) circle for Android related postings or my Techie / Geeky (F) circle for other Techie Geeky postings, let me know ! /edit
Ungrateful, impatient people, who can't give proper directions
<rant> People who can't give proper directions pisses me off. If I'm supposed to pick you up at a certain intersection, and that intersection has turning restrictions, I need to know where you are.
Telling me you are standing right infront of a certain store doesn't do me any good. I don't have a database of where every store is in my head. It's even worse when you tell me you are standing in front of the bus stop. I have no idea where those are. You're better off giving me a store name, I might know where the Mc Donald you're talking about is.
When I ask you which corner you are on, stop yelling, repeating over and over which store or bus stop you're standing infront of.
If I don't know where it is, how does repeating the name over and over tell me where it is?
If you don't know your North from your West, shut up and let me tell you how to tell where North is.
I was doing some one a favor and going to pick him up and give him a lift somewhere cause he was late. Almost just turned around and went home cause he was so impatient.
Argg. That's all. That's for listening (or reading) to me vent. Needed to vent, and couldn't fit this all in Twitter. </rant>
Is there an program out there that will help me make a kick ass video to help kick off my VLOG (can you guys who've hung out with me hear me say that in your head yet ??) ?? For Ubuntu maybe ???
I dunno what this kick ass program would do, but I would imagine a really bad ass one would cut, edit, and do all that shit automatically, including beep out the F$#K in my "Go f#$k your face!" line.
That would be cool !
I'm going to make a jump into the VLOG'ing world, and it will be glorious ! ......... or at least fun....... maybe..
I dunno..
I shall attatch an appropriate, topic related picture, as to not make this post so boring looking.
[GPweet] Oh CM7... I'll never leave you for ICS again... (anytime soon that is)
ICS made me want to throw my dear HTC Sensation out the window!
I tried them all.. Best of them being ARHD (Cause Mikes the man !)... But damn it.. I had so much tweaking to do, hacked the shit out of a few things that were probably meant to be left alone. The lack of iptables with kernel drove me ape shit... And the loop holes I had to go thru to get GVoice to work properly & not give me that damn "Failed to set notification settings" error bullshit.... Argggg..
Wasn't worth that cool ass keyboard ICS came with.... I like my iptables binaries alot more I guess...
Soon... When it's ready... I shall give it another try...
