Requesting the ability to make your profile private & approving who gets to follow you

This will probably be the last post of the night because I am tired, but I've been seeing a few post from people asking for the ability to approve who gets to follow them.

If you are one of those people, I don't think you understand how the circles work in Google+.

In Twitter, if you set your profile to private, you would have to approve someone's request to follow you in order for them to see your posts (tweets).

In Google+, you can't make your profile private, but you can make your posts private so the public cannot see your posts.

When you think about it, on Twitter, when you make your profile private, most of the time, I think, it's so you hide certain tweets from certain people. Most of the tweets you wouldn't care if they saw or not. It is for me at least.

If you were to make all of your posts private, that is, not selecting public, it would not matter if someone is following you or not. That person will not see anything because they are part of the "public".

So by not choosing public, you are essentially making your profile private.

To "approve" someone and allow them to see your post, you would have to add them to one of your circles.

Adding them to one of your circles, or "approving" them does not mean that they will see all your posts though..... And this is what I mean when I said you aren't trying to hide all your post from the person you are screening.

Consider this. You and all of your friends are on Twitter... But so is your mom. You don't want her to see all the questionable tweets you have, or about to have. So you make your profile private. If she finds you and you deny her, she will wonder what is up. If you approve her, she will see what is up.

Well, on Google+, she can follow you, and you can private the post you do not want her to see. Just do not make the post public, select the circles you do want to see, an make sure the family circle is not selected.

I hope this helps people understand circles a little bit more and see that there really isn't a need to approve someone's following you.

New Definition For "Chrome Dome"

Any Android lovers out there following me ?

I've created two Android circles for my sharing/viewing pleasure. I know a few Android owners and one soon to be Android owner (cough... +Dan McDermott ... cough).

I have one circle for folks that posts Android news often. I stick them in my Android (N) circle, so I can click on it to read what's going down in the Android community.

My other Android circle, Android (F), is for people that are following me back so I can share with them stuff I find interesting that has to do with Android.

I usually have two seperate circles for each circle I make so I can keep track of who is following me and who is not. I find it makes it easier to follow who I've been interacting with.

Anyways, I'm constantly browsing the inter_web_, reading up on the latest Android news and I wanna share !

So are there any Android fanboys (DroidHeads) that are following me, and want me to stick in that circle ?

I haven't seen this talked about ever (but then again I don't know what it's called), so I just wanted to share one of my favorite Gmail tips with everyone.

It's a very useful way to sort, filter, and track where all your random emails or spam is coming from.

I call it tagging, but I'm sure there is another name for it.

How to watch HULU outside of the United States

I just made a comment explaining to someone how to watch shows on Hulu.com outside of the United States, so I figure I make a post to share with everyone following me. Sharing is caring.

Hulu is a great site. Ever since I've found it, I've cancelled my cable up here in Canada, and just watch all my favorite shows on Hulu. There are even shows I've never even heard about, so I makes for hours of watching. Unfortunately, people outside the states can't watch it, with out jumping through some hoops. Here's one of the way I use to watch Hulu. There's another way that involves alot less work, and with out a need to download anything, but setting it up is alot more work.

First you will need to download a VPN
The one I used that has not failed me is HotSpot Shield. You can find it here at: http://hotspotshield.com. Download it and install it. CAREFUL when you are installing it though. It may ask you to install a bunch of crap on your computer, so don't go all trigger happy and keep pressing NEXT NEXT NEXT. You'll want to read why you are pressing next to opt out of any malware it is asking you permission to install.

Second, download Hulu Desktop
You can find that bad boy here: http://www.hulu.com/labs/hulu-desktop. Download and install.

Third, connect to Hotspot Shield
Hotspot shield will install a little icon in your task tray (bottom right corner). When off, the little shield icon will be red. Right click, and select connect. A browser will pop up and show you the status. After it connects, the icon will turn green in the tray. You can close the browser then.

Forth, start Hulu Desktop
Sign in, and start watching. You can watch from the browser as well, but Hotspot shield, when connected will display an ad at the top of the browser. Occastionally, there will be a few popups tabs behind the current viewing tab. It can get annoying, so just close all the browsers you have open, and enjoy whatever you're watching on the app. The app is way better anyways.

Why are people complaining on Google+?

I wrote a little something on my blog because I felt it was too long for a post here.

But basically it boils down to, why are people complaining about how other people use Google+ to share things? They are the ones who chose to follow them in the first place. Why follow someone if you don't like it.

Swiftkey-x on the Android

One of the awesomeness of swidtkey-x, yes I said awesomeness, is it's prediction.

SwiftKey learns the way you type from you SMS's, Twitter, and Gmail. It can then predict what you are typing to type even before you hit a key. This makes it very useful because it can correct all of your misspelled words.

I decided to just keep selecting the predicted words and see what SwiftKey thinks I want to say. This is what I got :)

I just showed +Glen Jones this keyboard, and it changed his life. Maybe it will change everyone else's too. This is my #1 most used, must have app on the Android. I've tried them all before. Used Swype before too, but it kept predicting the words all wrong. I didn't make any spelling mistakes, but I would type sentences that never made sense.

If you ever want to know what it feels like to be treated like a common crook ......

Go to the Shoppers Drug Mart on Seymour and Drake, and be helped by Gennette Ret-Davis. Not only will she do this in front of a crowd of people, demonstrating fine customer service to her employees, she will call the cops, giving you the full experience. Here's my story.

Yesterday, September 15th, 2011, I walked into the Shoppers looking for an exercise ball. My lower back has been acting up and I remember hearing great reviews from people using an exercise ball instead of a chair. I also remembered Shoppers carrying a selection of yoga equipment and exercise balls, so off I went.

I walked in the store and went straight up stairs to the health section. I b-lined to the health section, found nothing, so re-routed to the drug section. They have a section where they sell splints, bands, and other equipment as such, however, it is directly behind the electronic section.

Almost immediately, I was approached and asked for if I needed help. She was nice enough, so I said: "yea, I'm looking for an exercise ball, I remember you guys carrying them.".

She then turned over to Gennette Ret who told me they don't carry them anymore. No problem I thought, and made my way out of the store stopping to say hi to a couple of the employees I always say hi to when shopping there.

Mrs. Ret then begins to to say:

"You come here everyday, and everyday you never buy anything. Can I help you with anything?"

I didn't think anything yet at this point because I didn't think there was a situation. I told her "yea, exercise ball. Same thing 1 minute ago".

Her tone changes now as she tells me to go to another SDM and check there. She then asks me If I will be coming back tomorrow night, to which she added: "I will make sure to ask if you need help every single time you are here", implying I am only here to steal, infront of everyone!

What Mrs. Ret doesn't know is, I buy something EVERYTIME I am there. The night before I was looking for AAA batteries, she did come ask me if I needed help that night too. I told her no (because I know how to buy batteries), and she walked away. I found my batteries, paid downstairs, and left.

The time before that, when she came up to me to ask if I needed help, I told her I was looking for a USB hub. She looked at the wall I was looking at, then turned around and walked away. I don’t know what kind of helping that was, but she was extremely unhelpful.

I recall my very first encounter with Mrs. Ret. I was looking at those charging pad Shoppers carries. I was looking at the manufacturer's site on my phone to see if there was a case for my phone. She came over to see what I was doing and I explained to her. She then told me to buy a case for the iPhone. I told her politely that it would not fit my phone. She insisted I buy the iPhone case over and over. It seemed like she just wanted me to buy the iPhone case and get out of there. I don’t think she liked me from the beginning. It seemed like she just wanted me to buy something (even if that something will not be of any use to me), anything and just get out of the store... Not very helpful at all !

Everyone else at that location has been VERY helpful to me. But every encounter I’ve had with Mrs Ret has been the extreme opposite. I’ve never in my life been so insulted and humiliated. I have no idea where she comes up with the notion that I do not buy anything. Not only has Mrs. Ret not been helpful at all, but she made it a point to humiliate me infront of a crowd of people, blurting out lies and wrongful accusations in public, displaying great customer management skill infront of her employees. I love how she is the head of the location, and this is how she shows her employees how to handle a customer, a paying customer, whom she accuses of stealing from the store. She didn’t say out right that I am there to steal, but it was very well implied that that was the only reason I am there. It never occured to her that I am actually there to buy something. Maybe if she actually helped me, she would know that I actually buy something everytime I am there.

If you ever want to know what it feel like to be treated like a common crook, go to the Shoppers Drug Mart - Liberty location on Seymour and Drake, and asked to be helped by Gennette Ret. She will go out of her way to make you feel like a low life piece of scum.

Thank you Shoppers Drug Mart for hiring / employing such wonderful help.

Posting tip: Sharing photos from your albums

I remember seeing a few posts around G+ asking people how they can share a photo from their album.

In the share window, when you click on the little add photo icon, your only choices are: Add Photos (which allows you to upload a photo from your computer) / create an album / From phone. There isn't a choice to add from your album.

Here's what you need to do !
Go into your albums, and open up the album where the photo you want to share is located.

On the very top right hand corner of the browser, to the left of the settings icon, is a small share box. Click on it to expand the window

With the window expanded, click and drag the photo you want to share into that share box. The photo will be added to that box for you to share.

I want to thank everyone who's been behind me all the way. Those in the know, those who kinda know, and those who don't know.

Not gonna go into any details (dunno if I can), but I've been going through some shit I myself can't even begin to wrap my head around.

I've lost everyone I've had blood try and turn blood against me. I've had blood frame me and lock me up and try again a second time...

I've had everything I've worked for thrown away and not know why.. I'm up against a justice system I feel is unfair.

I've been asking myself for weeks how any one, much less your own blood, can justify doing this to anyone.

[WTF is this Bullshit?] This is why I love Google so much more, & left Facebook so long ago...

I recently went on FB again after being away for God knows how long.. I decided to change my password... Wrong fucking move. They sent an email with a confirmation link. I logged on, opened the email, clicked, changed my password...

Then the fuckfaces asked me to confirm my phone number via a text message they send. Logging into my email account and clicking the link was not good enough to prove that it was me. They still wanted me to verify I am awesome again, and forced me to verify my phone number..

I've long since changed my phone number.. I don't have access to it any more. But there was no way for me to get around it. The only options I had on the screen was to resend the text, enter the code, and continue. No way to change numbers at all.

I sent Facebook an email to see what stupid explanation they would pull out of their asses, this is their response:

You were asked to confirm who you are because our security systems thought you may not be using your real identity with this account or that you may have multiple accounts. If you’ve already tried to log in at www.facebook.com and followed the instructions to confirm your identity, but weren’t able to complete the process, we’ll need to see other proof of your identity.

Both have their pros and cons. Like every Linux distribution out there, each of these two distros have their own separate goals they are trying to achieve.

You can't say a distro is better than the other unless both distros are trying to achieve the same goal. It depends on what each individual is looking for. To say one is better than the other would be like someone saying a dump truck is better than a pickup..

I got both running on my box. Backbox2 as my main boot, and BT5r1 as 2nd.

Backtrack is obviously the shit. If you're serious about your shit, BT is on your keychain/pocket/somewhere on you everywhere you go.

Backbox2 is good for an everyday driver. It'd be the shit you install all your everyday crap on. You can use it and abuse it like a Linux Mint box, and not have to deal with warnings telling you "That shit you're doing right there.. It's a security risk!"

BT wasn't meant to be an all day, everyday driver. It's the dump truck. You use it for a specific reason.

BB can still keep up (after a shit load of updating, compiling, and patching), but you can drive that bitch all day like a pickup.

Just my 2 cents after randomly stumbling on a few posts saying one is better than the other?

Google+ mobile app tip: +/@ (tagging) someone in a comment

I just figured this out. I dunno if it will work on the iPhone version or not, so maybe someone can try, leave a comment, let me know and I will update my post to let everyone know.

Anyway, when you are reply to a comment from someone, you can tag their name by typing the + sign or @ before their name.

Sometimes though, as you type out their name, they don't appear in the box of names to select. To change that, simply go click on their name to visit their profile. You don't have to stay their for long. Just let the p rofile load, then hit back to continue editing your comment. Now when you type out their name, they will appear in the box of names to select.

One of my FAVORITE extension for Chromium/Chrome

If you watch youtube alot, and you use Chromium/Chrome, this is a must have. It will pop the video out of the browser and basically play in it's own little window.

You won't have all the buttons you get with the browser, so it's like watching the video in whatever media player you have. You can set the window to be Always on toop, and you can watch while you browse.

I like it alot !

Google+ Messenger ???

I think the Huddle/Messenger is stupid. The idea was cool, to have a group chat. I can see it being very useful when trying to organize things with a certain circle... That, I think is cool.

But they should have just made it GTalk just like the chat in Google+. Now we have a seperate messenger ? It's a messenger, but it's not GTalk ?? LAME !

A Different Follow System ?

I was thinking about the follow system Google+ currently has. I was thinking about those people who posts a crap load of things. Some things are useful, some things are funny, some things are just crap like the things you would post on twitter.

When you follow someone, you obviously find that person interesting and want to see what that person has to say. BUT, you might not want to see everything that person has to say.

I was thinking that it might be useful if Google+ has a system set up where the poster can set the topic/subject/category of their post. That way, when you follow someone, you get a choice to subscribe to certain categories of their posts.

So when you set up your profile, one would set up all the categories of their posts: Tutorials, Rants, Funnies, etc. And when someone elses follows you, they get a choice to see everything you post, or just certain posts you have depending on category.

It might make things alot less annoying if you are following someone interesting, who also posts alot of crap you don't care to see.

It'd be kind of like Hulu, when you subscribe to a show and you select if you want to subscribe to all shows, or just new shows. In Google's case you would follow a person, and select which categories to follow from that person.

On the other end of the spectrum, when you make a post, in addition to selecting the circles you want to post to, you would select which category you post would fall into.

I dunno.. It's just a random thought I just came up with. What do you guys think ?

What he is refering to is me letting people use my EDU email account to sign up for dropbox's (or whatever site offering student promos) student promo. One which requires you to verify you are indeed a student by showing you have acces to that student edu email address showing you got the verification link (which I just send back to you).

How it works is, you use my email address, BOOEY@AWESOME.EDU(not real), you add a + after my name,, followed by your name. So it looks like BOOEY+popeye@AWESOME.EDU.

The sent email will still go to my account as if the +popeye was not there. The sentto: field in the email will show that the email address it was sent to is BOOEY+popeye@AWESOME.EDU.

Now everything from that account...... GETS forwarded to one central email account I use to manage ALL my email accounts. I refer you to #BooeysRetroPost #0002 (http://goo.gl/aKK9F).

If the email used ends up being a problem, I go set up a filter, filter out all emails sent to the +popeye one, have it set to delete, and DONE !! no problems !!

So Alberto, to answer your question, NOPE ! =o)

I've been trying to share this with +Dan McDermott for DAYS now, but he doesn't answer his messages to let me know if he is already using this or not to control his collection of monitors.

Sorry I couldn't edit it. I really wanted to share this tho. Pretty BAD ASS eh ?

Instructions:
I just realized I didn't finished installing my video editing programs yet. But I really wanted to share this cool program with you guys

It's cross platform, so you can use it with Mac, Win, and Linux. Any combination.. AT THE SAME TIME !.

You get the keyboard to input on whatever screen the mouse is on. You can move back and forth smoothly. You can even COPY AND PASTE between computers (Only text though. You can
t copy and paste files)

Obviously, you can't move windows across the screens.

To install on a Linux (in my case, Xubuntu on left, & Kubuntu on right), open up a terminal/console and type in, with out the "'s :

"sudo apt-get install syngery"

That will install the app. Do this on all computers. After you have installed the app (it installs both client and server), type in:

"sudo apt-get install quicksynergy"

This will install a program that will allow you to use Synergy in two clicks.

Open up QuickSynergy on the server (the main computer that has the keyboard and mouse), and enter the clients computer name in the appropriate box. The box being the location of the other computer relative to the server. So if theres a computer named SEXYBOOEY to the left of the server, you would enter SEXYBOOEY in the left box. You can find the computer name by opening up a terminal and it would be the jibber jabber before the $,between the @ and " : ". So if you see "kubuntu@kubuntu-VPCF111FD:~/Documents$"

The computer name is ubuntu-VPCF111FD


Click EXECUTE.

On the client, just move to the USE tab, and enter the server's computer name.


Click EXECUTE.

That's all. Have fun !

Oh wow !

I plugged my PS3 camera into my laptop running Ubuntu, and the quality is WAY better than the stock camera my laptop came with.

I have a Sony Vaio F-series.

Just for comparison purposes, I stuck a picture I took with the Sony Vaio, a Logitech Quickcam for Notebooks (which doesn't work on Windoze7 BTW), and the PS3 camera.

Just wanted to share with everyone just incase someone out there has a PS eye and is running Ubuntu.

How to disable Instant Upload on the Google+ Android app

Not fair for us to assume everyone out there is on the same technological know how level as us. Not everyone reads a manual, and not everyone scroll through and explore every option when they get a new app.

How I use Google+ and all of Google's services

I got an idea to share with everyone how I use Google's services. Not just the way it was intended for, but in other creative ways (ie: using Gmail to backup data, etc)

When I started to type everything out, I realized it was going to be one REALLY long blog post. So I decided to break it down into series.

I wanted to start off explaining how I use Google+, but I use alot of their other services first before I post on Google+, so I started off the series with Gmail.

Tutorial: How to set up permanently pinned tabs in Chrome

If you use the right click / pin method, IF you close that tab, it will not be there again when you restart the browser. In the tutorial, even if you close the tabs, restarting the browser will still open up those tabs again.

Useful for if you sometimes want to close certain tabs to free up memory

So my tutorial is not that outdated.

You can now pin the tabs permanently but just right clicking on the tab and selecting pin. I had problems with that method before where when I restart the browser, the pinned tabs would disappear. So this tutorial is now outdated, but if you are having problems with pinning the tabs like it did, use the tutorial !

Just a little tutorial I made explaining how to setup permanent tabs in Google Chrome so every time you start your browser, all the apps and sites you have set up will open up in separate tabs.

I found it very handy having Chrome automatically open up Google+, my Gmail, and Tweetdeck every time I start the browser.

Posting Tip: Previewing your post

There currently isn't a way for you to preview your post before you share. So this is a little work around I use.

First, make an empty circle
Just go into your circles and make an empty circle. Don't add anyone into that circle. In my case, I made a circle called testing.

Second, when you make a post, delete everyone you share to by default.
You will only want to select the new empty circle you've just made.

Highlight everything you've typed for your post and copy it before you hit the share button.

Now when you share to that empty circle, no one else can see it but you. If you like how it looks, and everything is good, simply delete that post. Start another post, paste everything you just copied into the window, delete that empty circle, and select who you want to share to,

VOILA !

Love Shortcuts/Hotkeys.... !! I find it way faster than moving the mouse to find out where on the screen the mouse is, then moving the mouse to where you want to click, then either left click or right click, then navigate to where you want to click, and then click...

SOOOO much faster to just hit 2 or 3 keys on your keyboard !

Here's my most used shortcuts when browsing (Chrome).. It's universal. Works pretty much for all the browsers.

I guess this is post-murse like mobile phone. Remember how it started with the brick (Z. Morris phone)? Then the clunky flip (Motorola 550)?

Then it started getting smaller with the flip, but the flip was just a useless flap of plastic (Motorola Elite) (The thing was so high tech, it had an answering machine! Just remembered). Then it got smaller with the clam shell (StarTac), which would break in a month cause the wiring underneath the battery would melt from the intense heat created by the analog systems back then.

Then even smaller with the Motorola v2xxx series (I think).

But remember how the cool colors were grey (actually, the only color when it way grey), then VIP became BLACK?.. Then back to grey (or silver) with the Motorola Timeport?

Now it's all going backwards again. Phones kept getting smaller and smaller that Zoolander had a thumb sized cellphone.

Now it's bigger = badass, and housings are black again.

Maybe it even went as far back as the Murse-Like phones with the release of the big ass Samsung Note!

Extra Geek Trip Any of you remember the code for analog Motorola phones that enabled the debug mode, which allowed you to listen in on to other people's conversations? Like how a walkie talkie crossed lines with a cordless phone back in the days?.... 83786633 ring a bell?

I go to change my password and I have two choices to choose from to verify that it I am infact AWESOME: they send me an email, or text message.
I choose email cause I just recently changed my number so I won't be able to receive a text sent to the listed number.

They send the email, I click, it's verified, I even submitted the verification code...

Then they want to really verify that I am awesome by sending me a text. They must not have believed someone could be my level of awesomeness.

No way to change the number, no way out. Can't log in, can't verify shit.
