The recent news about OnLive really saddens me as I've long been a believer that this service was the future of gaming. Whether it was the lack of popular games, carrier data caps or the high cost of operations, they never really were able to turn that corner and establish themselves as a valid competitor in the gaming world.
It is unclear at this point how this will affect the product as it is not officially dead yet, however it would seem that it will be sometime before they are able to get back on their feet.
I still believe that online streaming is the future of gaming whether it is OnLive or something else.
I'm seeing a surprising number of people upset at Google for filing this suit, claiming that Google is now "stooping" to Apple's level. This simply is not true. This lawsuit was inevitable and in fact very necessary.
Apple has declared all out war with Android which has become more and more clear in recent months. While Google has never really been a company to use patents offensively, they are forced to do so in order to let Apple know that they will not sit idly by while Apple tries to dismantle Android and the companies who use it.
Google will never, I repeat NEVER go through with this ban. They will not stifle innovation. As much as us Android fan-boys might not like to believe, Apple is good for us to have around, and Google also knows this.
Google just wants to show Apple that they will not go down without a fight and assert themselves as a valid, legal presence in the mobile market while at the same time telling Apple to "Back Off"!
Reshared text: What do you think about Google's lawsuit against Apple?
It's been a very interesting week for "Bootloaders". First, the Verizon variant of the Samsung Galaxy S3 was finally hacked thanks to a leak and now Motorola is announcing an unlock tool for some of their devices.
There are only a handful of moto devices currently available for unlock, however the unlock page indicates there are more to come,
"We are continuing to explore the possibility of offering additional devices with unlockable bootloaders in the future, in other markets across the globe, as allowed by our carrier and regulatory obligations."
This is quite an interesting development as Motorola has long been known for their extremely locked down devices.
I can't help but think that Google's acquisition of Motorola had something to do with this.
And now my VZW S3 bootloader is unlocked. Thanks of course to +Adam Outler and all the other devs, but also thanks to this little app that is now available on the Play Store.
It literally takes seconds to flash your bootloader with the new insecure image. The app, unlike Adam's method, does require root access.
Thanks to +Michael Ludden's recommendation in +All About Android's arena segment, I finally decided to splurge and spend the $6.99 on Order and Chaos in the Google Play Store.
First let me start off by saying, "Hi my name is Joe and an ex-WoWaholic".
It was a love affair that began when World of Warcraft was first released back in November of 2004. Although we broke up several times, I always went back to WoW until I finally left for good earlier this year. As much as I loved her, I really didn't have the time to play anymore. In the back of my mind I had really hoped that a mobile version would be released, and then maybe I would be able to start again.
I had tried a few mobile MMO's but none of them really "did it" for me. Pocket Legends was cute, but not really the immersive experience I was looking for. I had checked out Order and Chaos, but was not about to spend $7 huge bucks on an app... I mean seriously, $7 for an app? WTF!
After watching Michael play it on All About Android, all those old feelings came back. It was 2004 all over again and I was enchanted by the eeriness of the Undercity.
Well needless to say, I bought it and was not disappointed. I've been having a great deal of fun playing and leveling up an Elf Ranger. If you enjoy playing WoW and are looking for a similar experience on mobile, then Order and Chaos is the game for you!
PS: BTW +Michael Ludden, I did vote for Order and Chaos.

Reshared text: Google+ is Too Big for Your Company to Ignore
While Facebook’s dominance and Pinterest’s growth may be grabbing all the headlines, Google+ continues to creep up the rungs of the social media ladder. Last week it was reported that Google+ had surpassed LinkedIn in unique users with a 43% jump compared to May. Bottom line: if your company has been ignoring Google+ it’s time to stop and to start thinking about a strategy.

A lot of unofficial builds for the d2vzw have been floating around, so I felt as a CM maintainer I should at least post one of the builds I've been using as my daily driver for a few days now. This is an unsupported alpha build but it is quite stable for daily use. Regardless don't file bugs against this build (standard alpha practice. yadda yadda yadda)
MMS is not working and LTE is unstable. Other than that I haven't noticed any huge problems with this.
Sitting outside in the sun reading my G+ stream. It suddenly dawned on me that I was able to see my screen almost perfectly in the sun. Chalk up another +1 for the Galaxy S3!

I saw the title of this article and immediately thought "private prisons".
Private prisons are pretty evil. They profit off of people doing illegal things. So, to keep people doing illegal things, it is in their best interest to make and keep more things illegal.
Also on the list? Alcohol/beer companies. I mean, they'd hate the competition of a better product.

Decided to take a break from playing around with my new Galaxy S3 this morning to flash +Hash Code's new Jelly Bean ROM on my Kindle Fire. You may be asking what the point is of having Jelly Bean on the Kindle Fire, and well, that would be a good question. With no microphone or GPS it does render Google Now somewhat useless. However there is one very big reason that it is worth it, and that is Project Butter. I was amazed at how smooth this ROM runs. There are a few minor issues (very minor) still being worked out, but without a doubt this ROM is daily ready.
As always Hashcode has once again put out some amazing development work for the Kindle Fire. Check out his post on +xda-developers by clicking the link below if you'd like to check it out!

Unless you have been internet deprived lately, you are aware that Android 4.1 aka Jelly Bean (JB) is due out in the coming weeks. Which inevitably leads to the question: How does this affect me CyanogenMod?
Now, to preface this, we do not have our hands on the source code, and things in this post may change dependent on analysis of the code first hand and the impacts. That said, we do have a general understanding of the changes and what we can expect, and this post serves to highlight the key changes.
CyanogenMod Next
Many have asked whether JB will be CM9.1 or CM10. Keeping with the pattern thus far, every newly named AOSP update results in a bump to the CM major version. This has the added benefit of fitting into the pattern of [insert codename position in the english alphabet] = CM version. Examples being: G is the 7th letter thus CM7, I is the 9th letter thus CM9 and J = 10.
I can’t believe its not Butter
The ‘Project Butter’ enhancements to Android are much anticipated and should not be a huge pain to merge. We anticipate some breakage in existing libs but nothing that the reference board devices or some hackery won’t overcome. Essentially, if your device met our criteria for CM9 (512mb RAM, etc) and is already supported, then you should be in line for CM10. There may be some added headaches around hwcomposer, but we’ll cross that bridge when we get source.
Another fresh start?
With CM9 (and ICS) being such a large jump from CM7 (GB) we decided it would be best and most efficient to essentially rewrite CM enhancements from scratch. This added a bit of time to our development cycle, but the initial investment in cleaning our codebase has paid off, and CM9 is better for it. Now that JB is around the corner, we are in a place where most of our code will merge cleanly into JB, with minimal fuss.
What needs rework?
Since we don’t have source, we obviously can’t give a 100% analysis. What we do anticipate refactoring is Trebuchet and the LockScreen enhancements, along with the Theme Engine.
In addition, we expect to have to hand merge (versus a more automated method) the updated Framework code. This isn’t because of massive changes, but from what we’ve heard, the Framework code has been split into multiple projects to better the PDK (Platform Development Kit). Should be doable in a weekend’s amount of time.
CM7, 9, and 10 at the same time?
Our goal is to release a stable CM 9.0.0 (and any needed .1’s). After that, we will work on CM7 and CM10 only. As stated above, CM9 devices are highly likely to get CM10, so maintaining a separate class of devices for CM9 only is inefficient.
RESHARE: Get Google Now on your device if running an ICS AOSP ROM!
I set it up myself and haven't been able to get it working yet. Hopefully I'll have more time later to play around with it. I'll post back what I find.
Edit: Correction, voice search is not functional yet but the data gathering and cards do work.
Install this now if you want to get the data aggregation started so you won't have to wait when it is fully functional.

Check out Gumroad.com while you're at it. It's a very cool service that enables people to sell digital media. You set the price. The company's fee is $.25 per transaction plus 5%.
So, for example, if someone pays me $1 for the book, I get $.70: $1.00 - $.25 - $.05. On a $3.00 book (which seems to be the magical price point), I get $3.00 - $.25 - $.15 or $2.60.
RESHARE: Verizon announces their new data plan pricing.
I'm quite disappointed with this. I was hopeful that the pricing would give me some incentive to drop my 3 grandfathered unlimited data plans but it won't. Looks like I would be spending the exact same if I select the 4GB plan (which I will need at least that much). Gonna hold onto those unlimited plans as long as I can.
Just like I suspected though Verizon will be getting rid of the tethering plans since the data is all included now anyway. That's good at least.
Finally went to get my car after two weeks of waiting for repairs from my neighbor backing into it. While I'm getting ready to leave someone else backs into it!!! Thanks +H & V Collision Center for taking it back in and buffing out the minor abrasion.

The Reeds and other characters "dissed" in Season 2 +Game of Thrones will be brought into Season 3!
