Decided to take a break from playing around with my new Galaxy S3 this morning to flash +Hash Code's new Jelly Bean ROM on my Kindle Fire. You may be asking what the point is of having Jelly Bean on the Kindle Fire, and well, that would be a good question. With no microphone or GPS it does render Google Now somewhat useless. However there is one very big reason that it is worth it, and that is Project Butter. I was amazed at how smooth this ROM runs. There are a few minor issues (very minor) still being worked out, but without a doubt this ROM is daily ready.
As always Hashcode has once again put out some amazing development work for the Kindle Fire. Check out his post on +xda-developers by clicking the link below if you'd like to check it out!
After catching the IO keynotes, various other bits and pieces as well as updating my Google Apps today, I have to say that Google has taken it to a whole new level today. Good job +Google!!!
Samsung has given me two of these puppies. It's a great phone. Love the physical home button, multiple apps and windows running (eg, watching video while reading email), and widgets.
1. You know you’re rooted when your girlfriend can’t get hold of you for an hour because you’re in recovery.. and she becomes suspicious.
2. You know you’re rooted when someone asks if rooting is like jail breaking their iPhone and you laugh in their face.
3. You know you’re rooted when boot loops don’t scare you anymore.
4. You know you’re rooted when your girlfriend looks in your messages and gets suspicious cause you have none.
5. You know your are rooted when u scream “YESSSS” in a bus full of people because a rom update successfully booted up.
6. You know you are rooted when someone at a party says “hey you have that awesome 12/8 mp camera phone right? Please take a pic of us” and you can only sheepishly reply “Cyanogenmod doesn’t have working camera yet”
7. You know you’re rooted when you take your Android phone to the service center and they say that your warranty is voided because of rooting.
8. You know your rooted when you wake up and your Android device is still in your hands.
9. You know you are rooted when two iPhone guys are talking about their phones and you are sitting there smiling thinking “if only they could understand the things you do on your phone is of a magnitude higher than they can ever do”
10. You know you’re rooted when your microUSB cable connected to your PC is used more often than your mouse.
I have to say I'm surprised at the level of gameplay in some of these new mobile mmo's. I've had more fun than I thought I would playing Pocket Legends. Gives me hope that there will be real immersive games in the not too distant future.
Got my new PC built and up and running... been without one for a couple months now. Now I see what everyone's been talking about with this #whitespace !
Is Google Censoring Free Speech? Several weeks ago, +Google was instrumental in thwarting one of the biggest threats ever to our freedom of speech. 4.5 million People signed Google’s petition to stop SOPA and PIPA and at least for the time being, congress listened. What you may not realize however is that around the same time, Google itself was removing a key feature that allowed us “little people” a chance to have our voices heard. A lot of you probably didn’t even know that this was done since the “Incoming Stream” was not a feature that stood out within the +Google+ application, however the potential that this little tool had was quite enormous.
Chances are you don’t know anything about me, and really why would you care to? I have never proven myself to be an individual worth circling, maybe that is until now. The thing is, I have a lot to talk about, but how are you supposed to ever hear what I’m saying? Even now it feels as if I’m yelling into an empty cave, hearing only my own voice echoing back at me.
The Incoming Stream helped to solve this problem. If you were in my circles but I not in yours, you would still have the opportunity to read this post through incoming. This gave me the opportunity to reach the people whose content I’m interested in and perhaps to share something interesting with them. If you think about it, this personifies what Google+ is; a way for everyone to speak and have their voice heard. But alas, it is not the case anymore. Google has removed the Incoming Stream and buried my voice deep in the sea of noise that is Google+.
What I don’t understand though is, why? If you look at +Dave Besbris post (https://plus.google.com/u/0/113882113745075873153/posts/Rjt66GLtnA2), no real concise reason is given. One reason that was given was that nobody used it. However, if you look at the responses in the thread, you will find the contrary is true. Another reason given was that it confused people. I must admit that this one is true as I was confused as to what it did for the longest time. However, when you think about it whose fault is that? In my opinion it is Google’s for not representing it properly and giving it a name that actually indicates its purpose such as “Shared with me” or “Posted to me”. At worst, why wasn’t it changed to an “opt-in” feature? And no, “Search Plus Your World” is not the answer, because guess what; I’m not in your world.
Do I really think that Google is censoring free speech? Obviously not; as Google has without a doubt demonstrated that they stand for anything but censorship. However, I do think Google was a little too hasty to pull the plug on the Incoming Stream without at least offering a reasonable alternative. With a few tweaks it seems to me that this little tool could have given aspiring bloggers or anyone really a chance for their voice to be heard, which in my opinion is what Google+ is all about.
At the time I posted this, there are 28 people who have me in circles, which means that if I’m lucky, maybe 15 people will actually read this post. I am willing to bet that if more people understood its purpose and value, then more would want to use incoming. Feel free to +1 or share this post if you (like me) want to see the “Incoming Stream” brought back.
Just flashed another ICS ROM (CM9 kang) on my kindle fire. Seems to work pretty well compared to others I've tried. Worst problem I could find was that HD video is not yet working. Here is the link if anyone wants to give it a try.
Finally went to get my car after two weeks of waiting for repairs from my neighbor backing into it. While I'm getting ready to leave someone else backs into it!!! Thanks +H & V Collision Center for taking it back in and buffing out the minor abrasion.
So after trying this ROM out for a day I have to say I am impressed. It is the most stable ICS ROM I've tried on the kindle so far. There are only a couple problems with it currently.
1. No hardware acceleration. Basically nothing graphics intensive will work properly such as high-def video or certain games. For the most part this hasn't negatively impacted my experience while using the ROM. There are no ICS ROMS for the kindle that have HWA working right now anyway. 2. Battery life is not that fantastic. CM7 had much better life.
Other than these two issues the ROM is relatively bug free, which is saying alot for an ICS ROM. I am going to continue using this as my daily as the ICS benefits for the tablet outweigh the drawbacks.

Just installed Ice Cream Sandwich (CM9) on my kindle fire. The UI looks absolutely gorgeous on the tablet screen, but I noticed some bugs pretty quickly. For one I could not get wifi to work (even though it supposedly does work). I've restored back to CM7 for now until the ROM is a little more stable.
Just flashed the AOKP ROM (ICS) to my original Droid Incredible. Very nice ROM. More stable than any other ICS ROM I've tried. Only bad thing was I had to remove the awful pink unicorn boot animation. :)
RESHARE: Kudos to +Up Your Plus for helping those generating good content without followers to find a following.
Reshared text: Posted by +Gabriel Vasile: 30 GREAT POSTS FROM PEOPLE & PAGES UNDER 1000 FOLLOWERS (PART I)
Yes, I'm starting with the less known people on Google+ and I want to find the best less known things first. I'll move on slowly to more popular people too, however, I think this is a good place to start.
For this post, I've looked through hundreds of people and thousands of posts. I used +CircleCount by +Daniel Sandstain (www.circlecount.com) to find great people & pages under 1000 followers and www.googleplussuomi.com by +Jari Huomo to find their best posts. I have found about 30 interesting posts for the under 1000 followers category. This is the first part, having 15 of them. Hope you'll enjoy them!
I noticed every single one of these inconsistencies including a fewothers. Bran and Rickons escape from Winterfell was much much more dramatic in the book. Also there still is no Jojen and Meera.
I'm beginning to feel a little cheated regarding Bran's story in the show. It is much more interesting in the book.
I'm seeing a surprising number of people upset at Google for filing this suit, claiming that Google is now "stooping" to Apple's level. This simply is not true. This lawsuit was inevitable and in fact very necessary.
Apple has declared all out war with Android which has become more and more clear in recent months. While Google has never really been a company to use patents offensively, they are forced to do so in order to let Apple know that they will not sit idly by while Apple tries to dismantle Android and the companies who use it.
Google will never, I repeat NEVER go through with this ban. They will not stifle innovation. As much as us Android fan-boys might not like to believe, Apple is good for us to have around, and Google also knows this.
Google just wants to show Apple that they will not go down without a fight and assert themselves as a valid, legal presence in the mobile market while at the same time telling Apple to "Back Off"!

RESHARE: Some awesome updates to the G+ Android App today. If they removed the Incoming Stream I don't think I'll keep it though.

RESHARE: Not sure how I missed this living just outside Albany. Maybe it's because I don't watch local news anymore. Regardless, it's great to see this deputy sheriff protect these people's first amendment rights.
Reshared text: Kings and Masters of tiny domains dislike it when you challenge their authority.
It was great watching this sheriff tell the airport authority/TSA agent to leave alone the two people who are handing out flyers informing people about the dangers of the nudie scanners and their right to film patdowns. Airport guy looked like someone had peed in his Cheerios.

RESHARE: This could be the phone that actually makes me renew my Verizon contract. Still rocking my original droid incredible just because I don't want to lock up for another two years. On the other hand, I don't feel like paying the full $650 either.
+Daron Dowd should have used this example in your presentation yesterday.
Reshared text: QR code reveals itself on glass only when it's filled with Guinness!
Marketers take note! Guinness is running a marketing campaign called Guinness QR Cup. You can't see a QR code etched into the glass until you fill it with Guinness. (Most other beers aren't dark enough to work.) Then you can snap a pic with your smart phone, at which point "it tweets about your pint, updates your facebook status, checks you in via 4 square, downloads coupons and promotions, invites your friends to join, and even launches exclusive Guiness content."
RESHARE: Nice to actually see this in action. I think the PC I just built myself will be the last traditional desktop I own.
Reshared text: Here's the video I made of Ubuntu for Android. I'm no video expert so the sound is clunky and the flow isn't great, but you can still see how great this idea could be, especially the bit where richard undocks and then redocks the phone and the desktop and LibreOffice are just waiting for him. Plenty of distance to go but it convinced me that in future a mobile device may be all I need.
RESHARE: Very enlightening interview with George R. R. Martin. Talks about why he kills major characters and how difficult it is to write Bran viewpoints. To top it all off he reads an excerpt from The Winds of Winter. And no, it's not the chapter he posted on his website.
Reshared text: Last part! The final 9 minutes includes the reading of the first few pages of a chapter from The Winds of Winter that GRRM has not read or posted anywhere else before.

Share this post with your friends. 2. Grab your copy here: http://bit.ly/NUJGNP 3. Comment on this post after you have read the book, let everyone know what you think of it. Hope you enjoy this book. Much work has gone into upgrading it, with many more pages, diagrams and photos. Why? Because of all the valuable feedback I have received from google+, I have re-written this book in easy-to-understand English, and now I think it explains photography much better than anything I have ever read. I would also like some honest feedback that I can use for when this book goes on sale (soon), and I want to be the person you think of when you want photography training. Please comment on the blog, or send me an email (with your picture) that I can use as testimonials. Have a great day. Brent
