was looking for an image for a #rant  in help communities about those who seem to have the need to have the last comment on a post, regardless of whether they are correct or not...

I know there are people out there that do suffer from quite debilitating forms of #OCD in my circles, I hope they're not offended by this post and can appreciate the humour in it! :)

    HMV Bites The Dust!
Is physical media history in a digital age?

Will Waterstones & Blockbusters also go down the tubes as the demand for media in physical format drops even further? It's only a matter of time I suspect.

Was the last music you bought a download or physical? Have you switched to reading books on e-devices yet? Do you stream movies, rather than rent or buy those battered old discs?

The immediate future of the store and it's 4,000+ employees is uncertain after reports that the company were to appoint administrators. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-21021073

edit this has been in Manchester for almost two weeks already, why on earth had no one mentioned it previously or have I just been missing notifications about it?

anyone want in or out of my 'Lego notification circle' just let me know, I don't notify very often, just when I find something totally amazing like this!

Incredible 250,000 Piece LEGO Star Wars Display

This 250,000 brick Lego display is part of Legoland Discovery Centre in Manchester, UK featuring scenes from Star Wars, Episode I. There are the hills and waterfalls of Naboo along with a starfighter, the stadiums of the Tatooine podrace and the Droid army massing for attack. There are also over 2,000 minifigs worked into the display along with some of the movie’s lead characters. If you’re in the UK, then you can check out this masterpiece through June 1st.

    Lego Hogwarts!
Now this is a fantastic creation, by Alice Finch and 400,000 Lego Bricks!

Last October at BrickCon 2012, Seattle-area builder Alice Finch unveiled what just might be the largest LEGO structure built by a single person, a near-complete minifig-scale rendition of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft & Wizardry from J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series of books and the corresponding movies.

Lot's more pics and interview with Alice on the link below..

It will also be available to view in person this weekend in Seattle at the Emerald City Comic Con.

    Mentioning Names In Comments
tag someone if you want to draw their attention, if they have already commented you won't need to (*)

I shared a post earlier about the 'notifications' option when sharing to a limited circle, but this has now got me thinking about other notification options (you can now edit these options and notification alerts quite heavily in a recent update!)

    - get notified when +mentioned

    - get notified when a comment is made after a comment of yours on a post.

These are two TOTALLY DIFFERENT options.

As I see it, (and in my highly opinionated manner I think I'm always right!), you don't need to +mention someone who is involved in the comments on a post as they will receive alerts about it already. But, it's a great way of flagging that post/conversation to someone you know who may be interested in it.

Does this make sense to anyone? Does anyone agree? Does it even help anyone? Or am I just trying to point at things that are 'wrong on the internet' again?

Also, can anyone translate this whole post into a lot fewer simpler words and illustrate with a nice graphic....

(*)thanks to +Emma Smith for coming up with this synopsis!

    Moving With The Times
    A Tuesday Rant ;)
When the first electric lightbulb was introduced many resisted the leap in technology as it just wasn't the same. We're even seeing a replay of this as the incandescent lightbulb is superseded by CFL & LED lighting.

Similar nostalgia, stubbornness or plain fear of the new is also witnessed with other technologies. The telephone was resisted by many in it's early days and I recall that the common place for the 'phone was in the hallway by the front door rather than an integral part of the home. How many phones are now kept outside the living area? As for the jump with mobile phones, I imagine most will know some, usually more mature types, that shirk mobile phone technology and have them but don't switch them on. I'm of the generation where they became grudgingly accepted by the masses, and recall many discussions with people arguing against the need for them, who later went on to own them. Mention to them now about their refusenic attitude and most will be quite sheepishly embarrassed about their resistance to new and useful technology.

So, where am I going with this rant? Well, digital technology now is such that we can have whole libraries of audio, video & text in our pockets. I know a few audiophiles that refused to contemplate CD's as they were cold and heartless, most have thankfully caught up with the times and have largely ditched their vinyl collections.

The most resistant to new tech seem to me to be Book Lovers. Barely a week goes by without me stumbling across some discussion about how tactile books are, how they are an olfactory experience and that digital books are so cold and clinical in comparison. There are only a few reasons I can see why a physical book made from dead trees is actually superior to an electronic digital version. In the bath, and possibly on the beach. Also, there are some advantages with the ease a book you have read can be passed on to others. On the whole though, Refusenic, luddite, dwellers in the past refusing to take onboard the multiple advantages of the available technology. I have yet to meet just one person who can genuinely say they have tried an 'electronic' book, on a portable device, whether that's a kindle, nook, tablet or phone who have not then seriously reconsidered their resistance and embraced the new technology. In fact the majority even get quite passionate about how much easier reading has suddenly become and for many it has reignited a passion for reading that had lain dormant for years.

Well, you've read this far on a screen, where are you in the book vs ebook debate? If you are still convinced that paper is best are you refusing to even acknowledge that there are tens of thousands of ebooks out there freely available for downloading for no cost? Almost all smart phones have some e-reader app, whether it's apples iBook, Amazons Kindle, or any of a dozen other apps. Go try it, or maybe you'd prefer to read your book by candlelight and keep your phone by the front door? ;)

    </rant over>

    RESHARE:
Do Google+ Users Stand Any Chance In The Shorty Awards?
I've seen quite a few people be a little vocal that +Shorty Awards seemed to be ignoring G+ totally. Then I noticed on twitter that they'd been doing a few Hangouts here, and have managed to get a few dozen to circle them, so looked a bit closer... and found one category we could submit to, and it was a complete no brainer as to who we could all get behind here!

The category is Animated Gif's and who better to represent G+ than the crazily talented +Dunken K Bliths OK, the submission form does seem to think the only place people will be submitting animated gif's from is Tumblr, but it doesn't say that it's the only place submissions can come from. You also don't need a twitter or facebook account to submit them, as it's a web form!

So, am just wondering if Dunken could maybe narrow the crazy number of animations he made in 2012 down to a handful, or maybe even one that we can all get behind! I've chosen this one to illustrate this post, as it is one of my fav's, though as it was produced in 2011 it won't be eligible for entry.

So, who's with me on this? And is anyone in Oz able to go wake Dunken up with a strong coffee for him to get on the case here?

pinging a couple of my fav G+ art advocates here, who can maybe bully help Dunken get motivated and provide a little support

    Yup! This!

Tho I think people tend to block me or kick me out of their circles when I suggest this is a little spammy, so I don't tend to get too many random notifications these days. Also, if you are plagued with this type of 'random' notification, you can select to only be notified when those in your circles send you a message like this. You can even go further and only permit certain circles to have this privilege. I do tend to stick people in an 'outer circle' that doesn't allow them to send me notifications if they do this more than once...

Does this class as a Monday rant? or just a public service announcement? Anyway, stuff to do here, am sure I'll have a proper rant about something later, probably about everyone posting snow pics whilst we just get a bit of wet and cold in Dorset! ;)

    Hey Android Users!
Why you want to give all your friends a cricked neck from posting those pics sideways?
So, unless you uploading from a desktop and can 'rotate' the pics, it's probably best to avoid taking/sharing pics taken in Portrait mode, and to turn your phone to take them in Landscape.
I've no idea why this happens, but if you do see a 'sideways' pic on G+, chances are it's been taken with a 'droid and is in 'portrait'. I wish they'd fix it, but meanwhile, if you have suffered from sideways pics, it might be a good idea to avoid taking pics in portrait mode. Your friends will thank you for it!
    #Android   #Photography

ps - does this happen at all when uploading pics from droids elsewhere, or is it a unique problem to G+?

    Nimbyville, Dorset
I wouldn't mind using some more fossil fuels if it meant burning some of the walking fossils in Christchurch.
just been to a public consultation here about proposed wind farm off the coast. As you can see by the pic attached these are quite a distance from land and could hardly be classed as intrusive. yet this too small a venue is picketed by nimby protestors and rammed with local politicos intent on naysaying.
tho navitus don't really do themselves any favours by using out of the way tiny places to host these things. Also am not convinced using staff who are speaking English as a second language, no matter how good their language skills are, or how pretty, is a great idea in such a bigoted Tory heartland! Also, no way to 'respond' online, it's all gotta be by paper, thereby losing a few Eco points if you ask me.
though with one of the oldest average populations in the country, most of these nimbys will not be around to see the wind farms completion and maybe won't be flooded out of their homes too often in the meantime by the increasing frequency of 'severe weather events' that will flood most of low lying christchurch in years to come.

    Yesterday...
Took the camera down the beach to try snap a few pics of the platform that's been sitting in the bay for a few days now. Been a few rumours I've seen about them starting #Fracking  or oil exploration. I'm pretty convinced it's just there temporarily between contracts as it's a support platform rather than a drill rig. If you look closely at a couple of the pics you can see something coming down from what looks like the centre, tho other pics show it's not the centre and also make it look like water being pumped over the side or something.
    Here's a link to details of the Seafox 1 platform - http://www.marinetraffic.com/ais/shipdetails.aspx?mmsi=235070675
and the tug Thorax - http://www.marinetraffic.com/ais/shipdetails.aspx?imo=9056789
a second tug is also present, tho not in the pics, Zeus - http://www.marinetraffic.com/ais/shipdetails.aspx?mmsi=230339000

The cranes were seen waggling about the other day, but suspect it's either maintenance or training.

Other rumours are it's related to the proposed wind farm, but it's current position is a few miles closer to shore than the nearest point of the proposed farm.

Also had the privilige of catching a nice sunset, but having forgot my wider lens and tripod I didn't manage to get a good shot. Also, playing editing and sorting colour balance etc wasn't very successful and I soon gave up as you may be able to tell!

    RESHARE:
this is for those of y'all who still have Facebook installed on your mobile devices.... choice is yours, but do have a look to see how the app taps into your personal data and reports it back to Facebook and their advertising partners....

    Reshared text:
It is time to remove Facebook from your Android device!

Facebook is currently in the process of asking you to install a new update. This update gives Facebook the ability to install future updates on your device without notifying you about the install.

This update gives Facebook the ability to bypass the Google Play store, and its app verification services, and update your device over wi-fi without telling you a thing.

    Why this is horrible

First, it means that Facebook can continue to update your device, and add features or abilities (like tracking you) that you would otherwise know nothing about. My guess is this is the precursor for sending you advertisements on your phone from Facebook Exchange, which happens to leverage Facebook partners to track every single address you visit on the Internet. There is no practical way for you to opt out of this service, btw...

Second, it means that by staying off the Google Play store, you are not provided with an opportunity to read about any changes that Facebook is making to your application, its functions and abilities to do things with YOUR data.

Third, and the worst part about it, this update requires that you turn OFF your application-security protection from unknown sources (like all those Facebook Exchange partners), and also anyone else who might want to provide a fraudulent update, claiming to be Facebook.

Right Now go to your settings/security/device administration, and see if "Unknown Sources" is checked. If it is, uncheck it immediately, and uninstall Facebook. This is a MASSIVE malware vulnerability, one that is required by Facebook on your Android device.

What more information do you need about this organization? If Facebook is on your Android device, get rid of it without delay.

    You are welcome.

This Sunday on BBC3 at 10pm!
This looks real good! It's only a 3 parter, but I'm liking the the trailers so far, but I think we're still waiting on part 3 of the government announcement trailers to be released. Those of you who are outside of the UK may have to go hunt down torrents and proxy servers if you wish to see it though.

For those not into zombies, this trailer does not contain any gore or anything disturbing and you may find it humorous :)

    Timmy writes a Christmas Letter

    Dear Santa,

How are you? How is Mrs. Claus? I hope everyone, from the reindeer to the elves, is fine. I have been a very good boy this year. I would like an X-Box 360 with Call of Duty IV and an iPhone 4 for Christmas. I hope you remember that come Christmas Day.

    Merry Christmas,

Timmy Jones

    Dear Timmy,

Thank you for you letter. Mrs. Claus, the reindeer and the elves are all fine and thank you for asking about them. Santa is a little worried all the time you spend playing video games and texting.
Santa wouldn't want you to get fat. Since you have indeed been a good boy, I think I'll bring you something you can go outside and play with.

    Merry Christmas,

    Santa Claus

    Mr. Claus,

Seeing that I have fulfilled the "naughty vs. Nice" contract, set by you I might add, I feel confident that you can see your way clear to granting me what I have asked for. I certainly wouldn't want to turn this
joyous season into one of litigation. Also, don't you think that a jibe at my weight coming from an overweight man who goes out once a year is a bit trite?

    Respectfully,

    Tim Jones

    Mr. Jones,

While I have acknowledged you have met the "nice" criteria, need I remind you that your Christmas list is a request and in no way is it a guarantee of services provided.
Should you wish to pursue legal action, well that is your right. Please know, however, that my attorney's have been on retainer ever since the Burgermeister Meisterburger incident and will be more than happy to take you on in open court. Additionally, the exercise I alluded to will not only improve your health, but also improve your social skills and potentially help clear up a complexion that looks like the bottom of the Burger King fry bin most days.

    Very Truly Yours,

S. Claus

    Now look here Fat Man,
I told you what I want and I expect you to bring it. I was attempting to be polite about this but you brought my looks and my friends into this. Now you just be disrespecting me. I'm about to tweet my boys
and we're gonna be waiting for your fat ass and I'm taking my game console, my game, my phone, and whatever else I want. WHAT EVER I WANT, MAN!

    T-Bone

    Listen Pizza Face,

Seriously??? You think a dude that breaks into every house in the world on one night and never gets caught sweats a skinny G-Banger wannabe? "He sees you when you're sleeping; He knows when you're awake". Sound familiar, genius? You know what kind of resources I have at my disposal. I got your shit wired, Jack. I go all around the world and see ways to hurt people that if I described them right now, you'd throw up your Totino's pizza roll all over the carpet of your mom's basement. You're not getting what you asked for, but I'm still stopping by your crib to stomp a mud hole in you're ass and then walk it dry. Chew on that, Petunia.

    S Clizzy

    Dear Santa,

Bring me whatever you see fit. I'll appreciate anything.

    The Guardian: A Steampunk Vespa

The “Guardian” was created by sculptor Cris Cofitis, and is absolutely outstanding. Built with painstaking attention to detail, Cris has built a steampunk scooter that is a rolling sculpture on wheels. What I really love is the way Cofitis has managed to keep character and essence of the original Vespa while modifying almost every inch of the bike.

Coftis has done more than just embellish the bike with steampunk styling via bolt on parts. Coftis has used his skills as a designer to fabricate, trim and fit everything into place with stylish details and fully functional steampunk replacement parts. What a great balance between, art, design, mechanics, and engineering.

Your GMail address has a near infinite number of variations!

Did you know that your GMail address can be extended?

It can be a fantastic way to uniquely identify which source that gave away your address to a spammer, but more importantly - it helps you to filter your mail!

Let's say my address is mymail@gmail.com and let's say that I want to sign up for a newsletter for something useful - like a site for Silly Walk GIFs,

If I signup for the newsletter with mymail+SillyWalks@gmail.com- that is not only perfectly legal and working, it also means that the mail that arrives, has mymail+SillyWalks@gmail.com in the To: field.

    So:
    mymail@gmail.com
    mymail+ebay@gmail.com
    mymail+NYPost@gmail.com
    mymail+ScaryWebSite@gmail.com
    i.e.

    The Art Of Black Knighting
    The Crusade Against #WrongOnTheInternet Continues...

Many may be familiar with the internet term 'white knighting' -  _is a pejorative term used to describe men who defend women on the Internet with the assumption that they are looking for a romantic reward in return._   http://knowyourmeme.com/memes/white-knight

Well, I present you with the Black Knight - a term used to describe those on the internet who refuse to admit defeat on a subject or that they may perhaps be wrong. Often characterised by abandoning posts where the comments have successfully defeated him, in everyones eyes but his own, and posts a new thread re-asserting his fallacious foolery.

I'm not convinced I didn't come up with this expression from elsewhere, it may have rested in my subconscious for years. The urban dictionary does have a mention of black knighting, more or less defining it as trolling an individual - http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=black%20knighting Although this may be the logical opposite of a white knight, the Monty Python film Holy Grail, presents to me a perfect example of 'Black Knighting' in how I would like to redefine the term.

just some more conclusions of my genetic condition which makes me to be intolerant of #WrongOnTheInternet http://xkcd.com/386/ and causes a reaction that can appear to some to be a senseless crusade to show the errors of using Witch Logic to further the argument in support of incorrect assumptions and conclusions. Though I really should know better than to argue with Jam - Thick People as they only drag you down to their level and then they can beat you with years of experience! Or, if not actually 'thick' they turn into a 'Black Knight' and refuse to accept the possibility of defeat even when they've had all the limbs of their argument lopped off with a big sword!

Tagged a few people into this, who may appreciate me venting on the subject away from the 'hot house'. Apologies if I misjudged the tagging of you in this...

Gratitude.... Or The Pointlessness Of Trying To Explain Why G+ Doesn't Work Like Twitter/Facebook

Is there any point to Google+ I used to run Facebook down but it looks sweet compared to this

Thing is, this is all coming from an intelligent guy who has just developed such a block about using G+. He's spent maybe 30mins posting last night, and maybe an hour tonight. along with a couple of forays into just doing plain naked shares of the 'leaders' in his topic.

Sometimes I wish there was a definitive quick simple intro you could link people to that would show them the basics and how it all just works.

The guy has 70,000 followers over on twitter, and has managed to pick up 17,000+ here from not doing much. I wonder if he remembers the days or weeks he spent playing with twitter until he 'got it'?

Though maybe I've just been procrastinating on stuff I need to be doing that's much more important... I'm a sucker for displacement activities sometimes...

    Pointless Post!
    Feel free to mute.
Trying for a productive day for a change, started writing a list, but got distracted by G+ and the itch to post something. Also, as it's an unwritten rule that posts should have a picture on G+ I then spent 5minutes looking for something suitably pointless. Hope it resonates with some, and possibly slightly annoys the people it's meant to, as they do slightly annoy me at times!
    Have a good day y'all!

you didn't all think I was going to leave you with just two #Lego  posts today did you? You know good things come in threes!!!

    Who Needs #GoogleGlasses ?
Not a chance of affording them even if they were available in the UK, but, hey, these gotta have more credibility than a pair of $1500 glasses right?

These popped up in my feed the other day, and sent me hunting for other Lego glasses, although a lot of links were pointing to Specsavers for these, the pages just wouldn't load so I suspect either my interweb is blocked up and I need to flush out the pipes, or it's possibly long discontinued. Here's the link anyway...

    Nimby Hot Air!

Discussions on the Dorset coast about the proposed offshore wind farm here may not have reached as widely as the one Donald Trump is opposing off the coast of his Scottish golf course.

The developers have released this image of what they say the wind farm will look like from Swanage, Dorset - I'd say the boats in the way clutter the horizon more than the turbines!

The argument about moving it further away has been partly met by the developer, though it's argued that it is still within some EU recommendation of how far off shore they should be. They moved the plans for the nearest a further 3km offshore to a nearest point of 14km (9miles) away. Reduced the proposed number from 335 turbines to 218, and the maximum proposed height from 210m to 200m.

Local nimby sentiment is centred on it 'spoiling the view', with the local tourism chief attempting to use old studies of perceptions of onshore wind farms in or near tourist areas. Now, tourism is big business down here, intact it's likely the main industry, but these figures have been roundly trashed by more recent studies on actual impact in tourist numbers, rather than a perception of them.

The other concern is related to the stunning coast line rich in geological history and is one of just eight in the world to be awarded World Heritage Site (WHS) status by Unesco, and concerns have been raised over whether the title would be revoked if the wind farm goes ahead. - The award is for the blinking geology of the area, not the view of an unspoilt horizon!! But, I guess it gives more ammo to the nimbus to scare those involved in the tourist industry!

I should also mention our tourist industry has got a pretty poor track record over recent years. Millions spent over budget on an artificial surf reef, which didn't really work and is now condemned as unfit for purpose. An Imax theatre which shut after only brief operation due to 'technical issues' and stood as a big concrete eyesore for several more years before decisions were made to purchase it and tear down the under-occupied building down and buy out the couple of restaurants that were eking out an existence in the shell. So, perhaps any advice given by these people should perhaps be ignored, if not completely contradicted!

Media coverage does also seem to be remarkably negative about the proposed development. Even the BBC have seen to indulge in some sensationalism in this article by including a picture of Chesil Beach as an illustration of the Jurrasic Coast. Yup, it is, but it's at least 20miles further away from the development than Swanage and the other side of second headland!

Wind turbines may not be the long term solution to our energy needs, but if they can help reduce our carbon output and reliance on other sources such as #Fracking for shale gas (and there is a huge amount of this under the dorset coastline!), then we're all going to have to get used to seeing them in our views, just like seeing boats in a harbour!

Spare 20 minutes for The Last Bookshop?
A fantastic futuristic short film a boy who stumbles into the last ever bookshop. If you like a nice short(ish) well told tale, or a passionate lover of books do take the time as am sure you'll appreciate the time spent and the tale told.

People who know me reasonably well will know of my love of electronic reading, and often disparaging remarks about the bulk, smell, weight of books. You may find it odd that this film touched a spark of the long distant secondhand book-seller in me!

I did at one point try and organise an bibliophile circle, but I got blocked a few times for having opinions about things it was messy so got pruned and merged... anyway, definitely pinging some of the lovers of books in my circles here - +Paul Stickland (view at some point with Helen, am sure you'll love it) +Denise Sparrowhawk  (I think you'll appreciate this!)
    +Arthur Biscuit (I know you'll love it)
(apologies if you're a book lover in my circles and missed out on a tag above.

Lastly, but by no means least, a thank you to +Sean Cowen for constantly providing great posts and content! ;)

    The Last Bookshop

A short film that looks into the future, after the digital age has finally made books obsolete and there's only one bookshop left!

"One day, when a small boy’s holographic entertainment fails, he heads out to explore the streets of abandoned old shop fronts outside. Down a forgotten alley he discovers the last ever bookshop. And inside, an ancient shopkeeper has been waiting over 25 years for a customer…"

    Have I ever mentioned I'm not a fan of #FollowFriday  on #Twitter?
I don't use it that much these days anyway, I just found it too difficult to follow conversations, tricky to edit down to 140characters, full of automated crap and days like to day where it's just rammed full of lists of people, and retweets of lists that people were in. I do tend to scan it and have it running a lot of the time when at the computer or if time to kill on the mobile, but rarely tweet these days and sometimes reply/tweet to some people I've known on there for a while.

Anyway, I guess this is my long over due Monday #Rant apologies for the lack of enthusiasm on this one and it's lateness, but, it's sunny here & I got things to do!

    Happy Fridays!

    Drones In Bournemouth!
    Spotted down the beach today....
This thing moved incredibly fast, real smoothly, even in the windy conditions today. The guy also appeared to be wearing some sort of virtual reality goggles which enabled him to fly the thing behind him!
Cool looking toy! I've only ever seen drones with 4 'blades', this one had 6, and I've never seen one equipped with these goggle things before!

    Nikola Tesla's 1930 Electric Car
Everytime I look into the genius of Nikola Tesla I seem to find some new fantastic revelation of how far ahead his science and technical abilities were. Electric cars aren't new, but Tesla's 1930 Pierce Arrow would still be seen as incredible when compare against todays efforts such as the Twizy or Nissan Leaf, or even the Tesla Roadster named after him.

Why? Well, it had no batteries! It didn't need charging and had an unlimited range (within 60miles of the transmission tower) and an incredible top speed of 90mph in 1930!

I've found a few articles on this motorcar today, of varying quality - I'd love to see +Robert Llewellyn do a piece on this, tho meanwhile I'll leave a couple of links for #TeslaTuesday  fans-

    [A bit of satiric comedy :) ]

Ever have the problem where you're trying to filter out melodramatic, close-minded, impetuous, or spoiled individuals, but combing through each circle becomes a bit tedious? Do you ever think, "Wouldn't it be great if there was a telltale psychological indicator revealing the maturity, sensibility, and poise (or lack thereof) of people in your circles?"

Us too. That's why starting today, we're happy to announce a great new feature we think you'll really enjoy. It's called the "initiative to Delete, Uncircle, Mute, and Block", or iDUMB for short.

    Here's how it works:

Start by monitoring your stream very carefully. The moment a new update is rolled out, people will begin to make extremely negative, rebellious, hyperbolic, reactionary, and/or self-centered comments. (In other words, they will FREAK the heck out!)

Now here's the ingenious part. Instead of having to seek out each person to remove him or her from your circles, he, she, or it automatically comes to you! This makes it super easy to identify and <delete> their hostile messages, <uncircle> them to prevent future annoyances, <mute> them to get rid of their pesky notifications, and <block> them to avoid further exposure.

Since it is quite common to confuse incoherent babbling for healthy skepticism, fair & balanced opinion, and constructive, well-formulated feedback, we've provided some examples of what to look for:

    The Melodramatic
    • OMG!!1!one!! Why the heck do they keep moving things around every 2 microseconds?! Isn't this the eleventieth change they've made today? I can't take this anymore. The world will not go on. My life is ruined! RUINED, I tell you!

    The Uncool-Competitor Dig
    • What is this? If I wanted this junk, I'd use MyPinBook. It's as ugly as dead Friendster's and MySpace's baby's regurgitated Facebook timeline. Even Microsoft's Socl is better than this.

    The Impatient and Overreactive Micromanager
    • Alert the press! This button broke with the new update! I need to make 3 posts in every community asking everyone, "Am I the only one?" It broke a second ago, and now I will proceed to write a lengthy dissertation and rant on why Google+ is sooo buggy and just doesn't "get" social! This should have been fixed yesterday! [5 seconds later...] Oh nevermind, it's working again.

    The Lazy Egotistical Self-Proclaimed Expert
    • This UI sucks. I drew art in kindergarten once, and clearly this makes me the world's authority on design. Who hires these monkeys? I want MY left-side navigation bar back, and I don't want to have to expend the extra 1/8th calorie to move my mouse over the icon. Next thing you know, you'll make me actually have to click on something! It's MY menu. I should be able to do whatever I want with it! Why can't you understand the world revolves around ME?

    The Gutted Martyr and Self-Hostage
    • I've been a very loyal user of Google products for my entire existence since I was a fetus. Heck, I even used Google Reader once or twice. I am deeply disappointed in Google for taking 5 steps backwards, turning 180 degrees, and taking 5 more steps backwards. Unless you revert things back to the design I hated the last time you made an update, I'm going to rage quit. I swear! I might even start a petition. You just wait and see. And if you don't do it soon, I'm going to make no dent whatsoever while I pretend people actually care when I threaten to leave but never do.

    The Oblivious Complainer
    • I really don't like this. I wish there was this thing called Settings where I could toggle a check-box to simply opt out of a subtle change. Instead, I think I'll turn it into a big ordeal where I'll blame everyone and everything else. Yeah, that sounds like a good idea. I'm going to spend the next 15 minutes denouncing Google instead of thinking and investing 30 seconds to understand how it actually works. I mean, can't they at least give me the option to view posts from each circle or to remove posts from my stream? And now there's not one, but two vertical thingies? That's like, quadruple the number of columns. Waaaay too cluttered. I can't handle thinking about one thing, and now you want me to think about two?

    The Uninformed Rebel-Hater
    • I completely and utterly hate this new change. It's terrible. I don't have the update yet, but from what I've heard, it's worse than Hitler. I have no idea what I'm talking about, but mark my words--it sucks!

If you don't see this new feature, don't worry. iDUMB will be rolling out to users over the coming week, so check back soon. We appreciate your ability to pretend to be patient while hitting F5 repeatedly until something breaks. In the meantime, keep asking when you will receive the new changes because that usually speeds the process up quite nicely.

Bahaha here is a summary of the actual updates :P Overall, I like the changes! http://googleplusproject.blogspot.com/2013/05/new-google-stream-hangouts-and-photos.html

    Topical #Lego
As a tribute to the +NASA  Mars Mission, the +LEGO community, well over 10,000 of them, have voted to create a Lego Curiosity Rover! How about that then?

Have a peek at the Cuusoo site - http://lego.cuusoo.com/ideas/view/3431?r44b=no where ideas are often voted into reality!

probably late to the party anyway as this project was first created months ago, but appears to have acheived the excitement and reddit status for te majority of the votes to be made since the full scale version touched down on the red planet.

So, whilst +LEGO is reviewing the submission by cuusoo, anyone able to add any additional pressure? Or maybe could someone make one up to go on +Bobak Ferdowsi 's desk at mission control (Bobak is the NASA Mohawk guy!)

    First Mobile Phone?
A post by +Metro on the last 30 years of the mobile phone caused a few moments of reflection to think back to my first phone - the NEC p100, bought in 1993 when mobiles were still pretty rare in the UK. Followed about a year later by the Motorola MR1 - one of the first digital phones capable of sending/receiving SMS text messages!
Can you recall your first mobile/cell phone? Were you an 'early adopter' or quite slow to take advantage of something we take for granted so much now?

It's Competition Spam Time On G+ this look at all familiar?

    Ok, I'm not giving away a watch/kindle/used buxx cup/other useless/desireable item

How to win spam your circles in two steps:

Step 1 - Put me in a Circle (call it spammers and turn volume to zero)
Step 2 - Publicly SHARE this post. (and apologise profusely to all in your circles lest they think you are a spammer too)

That's it! You're entered to win, and I'll ship it to you anywhere (though I'll only ship it to my buddy who I've already arranged will win the competition!)

Random drawing is on January 1st (irrelevant)

Ask +Google to stop this spam from flooding your stream and enforce their policy on promotions and competitions!
You may not run contests, sweepstakes, offers, coupons or other such promotions (“Promotion”) directly on your Google+ Page. from http://www.google.com/intl/en/+/policy/pagescontestpolicy.html G+ Pages Contest and Promotions Policy
It has been suggested to me elsewhere, that this policy only applies to business/brand pages. Though these policies were introduced with the same wording before business/brand pages were launched, and personal/profile pages are also pages.
I also believe that the contest policy should apply to personal pages, even if not originally intended to, as without this the amount of sharing and resharing of these competitions is going to become a bit of a headache.

Reshare/+1 if you agree, though I don't really care if you do or don't as I'm just having a #Rant about it. If I wanted to try get this post to hot the what's hot (or stuff I found 3years ago on Reddit stream as I prefer to call it) I'd have made a cool graphic to share with it ;)

    #ThrowbackThursday My Old Bus
Couldn't find the pics I was looking for, but did find these of my first #Volkswagen  (well the first one I got running, we don't talk about Old Blue anymore!)
Purchase cost £0! longish story but it came without an engine!!
Not quite sure how long I had it running, but probably spent more time in my ownership not running and sitting awaiting repair. Did manage to find a replacement engine twice... Neither lasted that long, and weren't particularly cheap!

On the good side though, I did get to take it to Glastonbury two years running! I eventually sold it as scrap to a guy who just wanted the Big Bumpers on it, and was prepared to take it all away. He was impressed with the condition when he arrived, and did say he may consider doing it up, so maybe my old bus is still chugging away somewhere delivering lots of smiles to the miles...

This is Serenity.  The ship from Firefly, full Minifig scale, a LEGO MOC by Adrian Drake of Ohio. It is seven feet long, weighs 135lbs, is made of 70,000 bricks and took 21 months to build. Total build time 475 hours. It has all of the compartments of the original set except the engine room, which he said he could not make while maintaining structural integrity. The cargo bay and firefly drive both light up, the shuttle detaches and wings swing out, and both engines rotate fully.  It debuted today at Brickfair in Chantilly, Virginia, and was pretty much the talk of the show. Mr. Blake only had to buy $800 worth of bricks for this build because his collection was so extensive that it covered the rest. I

Adrian's Flickr Photostream, which will apparently include many much better photos than these, is below.  It also includes a great Serenity logo subtitled "Oh no you di'n't!  Oh yes I did.  See you at Brickfair."  Adrian is quite a tease...

    RESHARE:
Oooo! Some good news to start the week! It looks like spring is actually rearing it's head at long last! :)
Hope y'all having a good start to the week! Personally I've a feeling I've got a case of the Mondays developing here, and may subject my circles to a little ranting later today!

Yesterday was the first time this year temperatures exceeded 20 ° C.

The top temperature was 22 °C, recorded at both Gravesend and Manston, making it the hottest day of the year so far.

The last time temperatures exceeded 20 °C was the 17th of September last year.
