Apparently, I set the original post to a limited number of people... this is a repost (sorry for those who are seeing this twice).
After a long, cold day, it is always nice to retreat to a good book and a hot drink.

There are only a few things that beat a comfortable pair of flip flops during the summer...
Another quickie shot for this week. I am moving out of state on Saturday and have been packing all weekend. There is still a lot more to pack, but I am making great progress!

This image of a Swarovski crystal was shot against the blue afternoon sky. While I liked the coloration of light within the crystal, I felt the overall image was too blue. So I converted to black and white, and now one can say the image is too grey and I could not decided which one to chose. In the end, the b/w won.

When I saw this tree on the grounds of the Airlie Center (Warranton, VA), I had to take a shot of it. The way the branches were protruding reminded me of something out of a Harry Potter series.

This past week has been less than stellar and I was tempted to share a shot I took two weekends ago for this week's theme. Instead, I opted for a quick and dirty iPhone shot of the sunset off my balcony. The colors were too much, so I toned it down in monochrome using one of the various photo editing apps on my iPhone.

I adjusted the horizon a bit to align with the verticals of the house, then brought the image into Silver Efex Pro 2 and passed it through the Full Dynamic (harsh) preset. I adjusted the contrast and smoothed out the fine details in the clouds. A selenium tone was added to the final image.

The housekeepers that work in my building are the sweetest, most helpful people. The ladies on my floor always have a smile on their face and always greet you whenever you walk by. It is a bit disheartening that they only get a locker for their possessions during the day. There isn't a room available for them to hangout during their breaks, or eat their lunch and chat. Nonetheless, they are the first to ask you how you are doing and to wish you a wonderful day/evening/weekend.

This excursion was the first of this type for me (back in 2008). It was very interesting, and at times creepy, but fun nevertheless. The experience left me wanting to explore more sites. Hopefully there will be more adventures in the future.
