note to self - book a seat on the right of the plane for all future day flights between PER to SIN.
cos unfortunately, no good photos this time round from the flight. but, for the sake of my own obligatory flight photos tradition, this was the best I could muster this flight ..
i'm used to taking photos of my (open display) toys with my mobile camera. but today, is the first time i took photos with a "proper" camera. while i'm obviously still a noob with the settings, oh wow the photos look so much more awesome than before!
oh, and yeah, i settled on a Sony Nex F3 over a Nikon J1. and after these photos, i'm wondering if i should keep the camera after the wedding instead ..
ps. photos were taken under (kinda) low light, and uploaded as is, with metadata intact. resized by g+
left home a few minutes later than usual. but with plans to stick to my usual bus schedule, I had to walked at a much quicker pace.
everything was going fine until I saw my bus from afar and had to run for it. bloody hell, of all the days for the 102 to choose to arrive earlier than scheduled.
so now, these old man legs are a little sore, and I'm still panting. but I did learn one thing from this.
just went for my grocery shopping, and decided to stock up on Indo Mie instead. i mean with the floodings in Indonesia, the price of a single pack of Indo Mie may just skyrocket through the roof soon. you know, it being uhm .. a survival kit.
nah, just kidding.
i just can't be stuffed doing any proper cooking at home, for the coming weeks before my holidays to the island of asian food paradise.
this is my new backpack. its not just any backpack, but the most expensive bag i've ever bought. seriously.
its been ages since i go around carrying a backpack, until only recently, when i felt more comfortable carrying a backpack over a messenger bag, with my Zenbook in tow.
so i figured i needed a new one since its been such a long time since i bought any kind of bag, i settled on this one, despite it having a price tag way beyond my limit (for a bag).
but its a really cool bag. so i'm happy .. i think.
last night when my aunt proudly showed off her new toy, i was trying really hard to keep my LOL in. i mean, seriously aunty? checked it out, played with the interface, took some photos and videos, and all the while still with a "meh" feeling.
until i transferred the photos to the laptop.
oh my, the quality of the photos was actually pretty darn good, the videos especially. i was really surprised and quite impressed. but will i rush to get it? probably not, because of the ..
1. price 2. size - its not big, but could be smaller
but then again, i'm currently targeting the Nikon J1, which are/should be on special now/soon, hence comparing them both.
ps. photo of my S3 was taken with the Galaxy Camera.
woke up early this morning to put the final touches to my completed Interlink Spawn. and since i still had time after, i decided i may as well rearrange my display. its not perfect yet (the set up) and i still need to properly dust off the old toys.
but at least it looks pretty presentable at the moment.
the Interlink 6, Spawn Series 18 [ http://goo.gl/ngcHI ] - a set with six seperate figures that can be joined into one giant robot.
after about 10 years in their packaging, i finally decided to take them out for open display (don't worry, this is my 2nd set).
i've been reading up before this, and many were complaining how difficult it is to link them together, and how fragile the joints and parts are. true enough, some bits and pieces of mine also broke while setting them up.
but after 3 hours of cursing and swearing, i finally got it linked. i still got some minor parts here and there to fully "furbish" it to make it good enough for my display case, but for now, i'm pretty happy with it.
Continuum. no shit its a bloody awesome tv series!
i happened to chance upon it the other night. reviews were positive, but i wasn't exactly turned on by the trailers. but season 1 is apparently only 10 episodes long, so i figured what the hey.
and my was i gladly surprised at how good it actually is. only first episode in and i was already into it. then subsequent episodes started with flashbacks to feed more details in, and i was thinking ..
and honestly, all i care about is waiting for the new season of Lost Girl to begin airing, and the return of my other favourite (and those i regularly watch) TV series like Person of Interest, Grimm, Arrow, Nikita, and Alphas.
Resident Evil Retribution. its where the next installment will need to be a Redemption.
i've been waiting for so long to watch this latest RE installment. but now that i finally have, oh how disappointed i am. its just not like any of the previous RE movies. it felt too game like. and the whole movie seemed to only concentrate on the fight scenes and nothing else.
the only thing i liked about Retribution (other than Milla of course) was having Jill Valentine (Sienna Guillory) back.
frack. the next installment needs to sooo redeem this (movie) franchise.
i finally watch The Raid Redemption. and it. was. awesome!
if you're after an action/martial arts film with the slightest hint of a storyline, well .. move along now. but if you're after one with plenty of bloody good fighting scenes, then you must check this film out.
there's no pretentious moves here. none of the you-punch-i-punch or i-punch-and-wait-for-your-counter type. its fast. its furious. its sharp and crisp. and its pretty much as real as it can get.
so if you're a martial arts film fan, you definitely need to check this one out if you have not. its now one of my favourite film cos the fighting style - stance, kicks, blocks, punches - is the closest to the arts i've been trained in.
i'm still halfway through Season 1. and i must admit, the pilot episode was pretty lame that i almost gave up right then. but i keep hearing good stuff about this series, so i soldiered on.
and its slowly getting really interesting now. pretty glad i stuck around. and i'm loving love this Monroe character. cool, funny, awesome. the perfect sidekick to Nick [ Grimm - Nick And Monroe ]
back to my couch. here's a video with the perfect accompanying music (by The Holiday Massacre) to wish you all ..
i've been catching up on Lost Girl seasons 1 and 2.
while its not really up to my POI standards, its really quite an enjoyable series. i did fear that it was gonna fall into one big giant love story and all. but so far, its been quite tolerable.
and one would think i would fall in love with the hot Bo. but no. i'm actually loving Kenzi. she's my kind of girl!
here's some quotes from her from season 1. my favourite was from episode 10 (at about 7:24 in this vid) ..
favourite literary quote about regret? i think it was the great poet .. Ludacris, who said .. regret is for suckas, for suckas, for suckas. regret is for suckas .. bitch
you get a production PSD, but font used in some text layers in the PSD is not a font you have. and client's designer is already away on holidays.
can you safely assume the font name used in the PSD will be the name to use in your CSS font stack? if not, how do we find out the "real" font name to use in the font stack?
really, actually, literally, scratching your balls while staring blankly at your monitor and wondering out loud if work will finally make an appearance.
Season 1 had potential. and especially towards the end, it got really interesting. it ended in kind of a cliffhanger. and i was so looking forward to Season 2.
but instead of building on the momentum from the previous season, it somehow went into a Witchblade Season 2 mode. disjointed, confusing, try hard to be indie || arty || different, and even a bit supernatural-ly and silly.
what a disappointment.
Lost Girl is up next. and ps, it sure does seem there's actually plenty of awesome Canadian TV series (all time fav is still Painkiller Jane for me)
when you love your nephew as much as i do, you'll understand how there's no limit when it comes to buying toys as gifts or presents.
other than my bank account of course
so what better toy to get for my nephew this festive season, than the Kre-O Transformers Optimus Prime construction set [ http://goo.gl/HQfVd ]. its on clearance at [ http://goo.gl/zJSqE ], has 542 pieces, 3 in 1, fits the normal Lego pieces, and .. its Optimus Prime. 'nuff said.
but why 2 sets you ask?
well, you didn't think i'd allow for a situation where my nephew has cooler toys than me did you ...
I'm missing instant noodles so much that I suddenly find myself debating with my brains if I should go grab a box of Indo Mie later on the way home from work ...
i've been catching up on Nikita during my breaks this past week. while i'm still not a huge fan (i prefer the previous La Femme Nikita series), the storylines are still pretty interesting to follow. but i admit i do a lot of fast forwarding.
but i just caught season 3 episode 2 - Innocence. and it turned out to be one of a very few Nikita episodes that i did not fast forward at all.
and the last scene .. i had tears welling up in my eyes. love this epsiode.
i've been sipping Tea the whole day at work with the Smashing Pumpkins - Morning, High, and Special Tea. yup, the bonus CDs of the MCIS re-issue is a really good listen. with ..
.. being 2 of my current favourites. its also 2 of a few full versions of some riffs from Pastichio Medley [ http://goo.gl/ap9Kb ], which is a 23min song of ..
"riff collection of practically, but not almost, every idea that was attempted for Mellon Collie that didn't even make B-side status"
.. found on the Zero CD Single [ http://goo.gl/N7HHo ], which is the best ever SP single album in my opinion.
no matter how many new and old songs, alternate versions, string arrangement, remix and remix of remix, old lineup, new lineup, mashed lineup .. Mayonaise still remains the best!
its been a busy and tiring week for me, which is unfortunately not looking to end anytime soon. but i did take some time out today (albeit later than my usual routine) to watch this week's episode of Person of Interest.
and it put a warm smile on my face. it was all about love and relationships, told in a very unique POI way. this was an unassumingly amazing story telling episode.
its Friday. the last day of the weekday. its a day i usually take it easy by doing the softcore (minimal) ten cent five cent bits of my work, with some catching up on the week's current tv series in between, before my hardcore assault for the weekend in the office.
but ..
today. no new episodes of Arrow and (more importantly) Person Of Interest. i am devastated. i feel lost. what do i do now? even McKayla is not impressed ...
i recently discovered Yuck [ http://goo.gl/E2Hd2 ] and Veronica Falls [ http://goo.gl/6r27C ] and fell in love with them on first listen. everytime i'm down or feeling emo, i pop their tunes in and they just make me feel better.
last night, in the same vein, i discovered Whirr (formerly known as Whirl). managed to check out some songs and love it all. will have to hunt their album(s?) down ...
everytime i hear someone say "Eleven", i can't help laughing.
i was watching the SNL skit with Hawkeye, and i laughed when he said he carries only 11 arrows - but not cos of that particular skit. a workmate yesterday mentioned 11px, and i couldn't help but laughed. i was just looking for an asset ID #11 earlier, and yet again, i laughed.
why?
because of this video. hey +Haroon Malik and +Darren Mathers , remind me to get you to say "11" when we next meet ...
i've only just started watching the Ultimate Spiderman cartoon series. and OMG where have i been these past few months!
it loosely follows elements from the Ultimate comics line, while still maintaining its own identity. and its also written and produced by Brian Bendis. being a huge Spidey fan, i've watched ALL the animated Spiderman series ever produced, and i have to say this is the best series by far!
so go watch it if you have not. i totally recommend this series!
for non comic fans, the Ultimate Marvel series is like an alternate (or modernised) version of our favourite Marvel heroes
i never thought that it'll be possible, but i think Person of Interest has just gone 2 levels up!
i'm really, really, excited for what's ahead for the series. but at the same time, i hope they don't stuff things up by making the storylines too complicated.
in the whole Star Wars timeline, does anyone know if Jar Jar Binks was still alive during the original movies? I mean, if he was, wouldn't it be awesome to bring him back in the expected next Star Wars movie ...
so that we can have him killed in the first five minutes? I would clap and rejoice if it happens.
I'm sitting at my usual bus stop. same time. as always. but Google Now just gave me a card detailing the time and route to go home, instead of to work.
maybe Google know better and I should follow its instructions ...
my arms and shoulders are starting to feel sore. and every single part of my legs are really aching now. I honestly felt like a penguin walking to and fro during lunchtime today, while working in the office.
guess that's what happens when you try to play 3 short games of soccer for the first time in 4 years.
but I need to heal quick for Wednesday. cos I'm going to beat +Haroon Malik at badminton ...
after 7 good years by my side, i've finally gone and get me a new sidekick. the Logitech Wireless Trackball Mouse M570.
the old Microsoft bird still works well. but my hand, fingers and thumb are getting old, and this new sidekick feels more ergonomically friendly. its also (more importantly) wireless, smaller and more sexy.
but it does feel different, and despite being used to using my thumb for the last 7 years, it does look like i will need to re-adjust my hand muscle memory .. which hopefully wouldn't take me too long.
I'm still waiting for the day where the bus driver wakes up on the wrong side of the bed, and just drives past the main UWA bus stop because all the UWA students think it's uncool to ring the bell to alight ...
my brains needed a break, so i decided to (finally) watch it. and being a huge Spidey comic fan, i have to say that ..
the Amazing Spider-Man
is bloody awesome! while still not totally true to form, it was so much better than those 3 crap ones made in the last decade. but, more importantly for me, Spidey's web came flying out of .. web shooters! finally, some justice!
the sad view from my office, earlier today, while the Perth g+peeps were meeting up in the park ...
but on a brighter note, at least i managed to afford myself a new bluetooth keyboard (with accompanying numpad), which i'm using to type this entry in.
yet again I found myself rushing for the bus. but this time, I saw this hot chick with amazing cleavage, who was going my way. so I walked close to her instead.
time slowed to a crawl ..
cos all the boys stopped to take a quick look or glance at her. even some girls did likewise, while muttering something under their breath.
as i lie in bed trying to force my tired eyes to fall asleep, i feel the need to rant and bitch about how bad this latest g+ update is, especially with the return of the 'caching' issues.
but i won't.
because in a matter of 5 days, the big G has made me a very happy old man by finally resolving the 2 long standing issues i'm always bitching about.
i can't believe no one in my (main) circles mentioned this yet, but it looks like high resolution google contact photos have been updated!
i've tested on one contact, sync up, removed and re-added my account, sync down, and wala .. it works!
finally. after so many years of waiting, and even recently bitching about it again [ http://goo.gl/n2Xsf ], its resolved. DND me tonight. i've got pretty pictures of you peeps to (re)upload.
i'm still not sure to shake my head at (1) the fact she's a university graduate, or (2) that she's a malaysian born australian working in a workers union organisation in Singapore, holding a high position ..
(update) note that my point here is, for someone who was born in Malaysia, grew up in Perth, work in Singapore, a Uni graduate, and working in the position she was .. she should have been more culturally diversified, and tolerant, than most other people.
RESHARE: most will know how much i love surprise proposal clips (and flashmobs and military homecomings) on youtube. and i always said there's nothing better than a combination or them (like say a flash mob and proposal).
but i was wrong. there is something better ..
a surprise proposal done and shared by a fellow g+ mate! congratulations to the couple!
Reshared text: I proposed to a very special woman last night :) My Proposal to Jeni
because there are some who still don't know (and i can easily ctrl-c ctrl-v when pointing out to them) ...
google calendar & google+ events
if you do not want to have g+ events automatically appearing in your google calendar (even though you did not interact with it) ..
1. open up your google calendar 2. goto settings 3. scroll down to "Automatically add invitations to my calendar" 4. select "No.." (or whatever you decide) 5. save 6. no more cursing and swearing while wondering why g+ events are showing up in your calendar, even when you did not click on them
RESHARE: tomorrow will be exactly 4 months since i fell in love with her.
while i admit i cheated a little (flashed the stock unbranded UK firmware), everything else is as stock as possible - no custom rom, no root, no third party launcher. i'm surprised myself, to be honest, that i lasted this long with stock, and still liking it that way.
i'm also glad i did not rush to flash the official JB OTA Poland firmware the other day, cos its looking like Samsung is "using them as beta testers". many who flashed it (LIB), had to revert back to the final leaked version (LI8).
anyways, its also a public holiday tomorrow in Perth. but its a state holiday, meaning i still have to work. so time to fire up the Transperth website ..
.. and curse and swear at the public holiday timetables.
Reshared text: it was big. and long. but soft on the hand. so i stroked it gently, and it came to life. i went into immediate ecstacy. it was love at first touch.
Samsung Galaxy SIII
you are definitely the droid i have been looking for
"they're just a bunch of pansies" "all hail the new york giants"
chuckles. Madagascar. never fails to make me laugh, no matter how much i've watched it.
anyways. its been a lazy saturday, and even managed to stay away from the computer as much as i possibly can. not sure to go to bed or finish up my old skool Transformers series.
i recently posted [ http://goo.gl/A7Sgx ] mentioning how Beth Gibbons was the mama of them all. and then, there's the grandma ..
Kim Gordon
no explanation needed.
here's two of my favourite Sonic Youth songs, perfect for this wet pirated Perth spring weather. goodnight everyone while i pry my eyes away from my monitors for the night.
after last night's post, i had to dig deep into my wallpaper archives to find these. after some tweaks to fit my S3, put them up and yeah, they still really do look good for my screens.
lovely wet weather at the moment in Perth. perfect for a (original) Smashing Pumpkins and Zwan reunion with my headphones.
at first i was like huh? then it dawned on me, that both those photos were taken in 1979. and being a huge fan of early pumpkins, he thought i was somehow trying to connect the two.
well i wasn't, but glad he brought it up. cos while 1979 wasn't really my favourite track - its Mayonaise for me - it still is a good track nonetheless.
sit back and enjoy this version, with Melissa Auf der Maur on bass, and Jimmy ... with a guitar!
when my nephew was born, i used to regularly find the best and coolest kids clothes i can find, for him. and kids being kids, they out grow them clothes pretty quickly.
yet i still buy them whenever i come across any cool stuff, knowing that my mama has a very strong tradition of hand me downs, hence my nieces, and hopefully, my youngest brother's kids in the near future, can still have them.
but i never realise how uhm .. "extreme" this family tradtion is, till i was scaning my old photos [ http://goo.gl/714qx ] and came across this photo of me, taken in 1979, with a t-shirt my youngest niece is still wearing on a regular basis!
this. is a very famous phrase in my family, a simple exchange between my mama and myself.
being the first child of my parents' generation (both were the eldest too), i was very popular amongst my family, and hence, every single one of my aunts and uncles know this phrase, and still remembers it till this very day.
i (obviously) cannot remember it at all. but after [ http://goo.gl/WgFST ], i decided to go through some old family albums i have with me. and my oh my, imagine how excited i was when i came across the photo that captured this famous exchange.
after last weekend's events, a cousin of mine dug out some old photos and came across this. its the house where my mama (and family) lived in before she was married, snapped by one of my late grand uncles.
i can't find any other info on the place though, other than its now part of an expressway (highway).
this is my Transformers Masterpiece MP-2 Ultra Magnus figure. yes, some will say its a white Optimus Prime, but i'd like to think this would be how Ultra Magnus would have looked liked if that idiot Hot Rod had not "stolen" the Matrix from him.
i've hated Hot Rod (Rodimus Prime) since young, and after again watching the 1986 Transformers Animated Movie earlier today, i still hate that idiot.
Ultra Magnus would have made a better Prime, the original series would have lasted forever, and Michael Bay would have made a truer version of a Transformers movie .......
its amazing how to this very day, me and my brothers still use our favourite cartoon quotes, in our everyday lives.
for example, just last week, my younger bro had a very important job interview, with plenty others vying for the same position. and all i could say to him was ..
don't worry. all you need is a little Energon, and a lot of luck
and during the recent Eid (Hari Raya) in Singapore, when i had to carry something really heavy, both my brothers went ..
we'll help you. lifter beam .. on
so. i think from now. i'll spread this "love" for old cartoon quotes, and greet everyone on g+ with this universal greeting ...
RESHARE: i needed to release some pent up emotions over the weekend. so did some shadow sparring, and it hit me.
my youngest brother is getting married in February, and i think i might go and surprise everyone by performing a wedding "dance" for the bride and groom.
but first.
i definitely need to get in shape ...
Reshared text: continuing my martial arts fix, here is another clip of my brother, the same brother from http://goo.gl/v4gqA, performing a silat wedding greeting, monkey styles, back in 2008 in singapore.
its actually pretty cool how with our group, in us3 brothers, i'm usually the Monkey dude, younger bro is the Snake dude, and the youngest is the Tiger dude - which basically covers our art.
for my last foodie post of this holiday, i present you rojak char kway. used to love them when i was younger, but totally forgotten about it since i moved to Perth.
but second SIL ordered this the other day for lunch at the Ayer Rajah Food Centre. i tasted it, and like .. oh i'm so having this every time i'm back in Singapore next.
topped with some heated canned sardines stirred with some fresh onions and extra tomato sauce. and then garnished with an omelette mixed with more onions, potatoes, and fresh green chillies.
breakfast is served.
ps. i just checked my weight. but unfortunately, after 3 weeks, i've only gained a kilo. which means i'm currently at .. ladies look away .. 50kg.
i have a POANG set (the arm chair and leg rest). got it when i was in the army, making it more than 10 years now. its still in good condition, except for the cushions. so thought i'd go head down IKEA to get a replacement.
and only later at home, did i noticed the difference in the labels.
