My rant of the day about LinkedIn
I'm pissed about the breach that occurred recently of the harvesting of user logins and passwords for LinkedIn Accounts.
Good luck with my password, it's not one of the 99% that would have been easily deciphered. Not too concerned about that.
However today I received a supposedly legitimate email reminding me of LinkedIn invitations pending for my review. The usual practise is to the click the links in the email to go directly to the LinkedIn site. I do not just click anything, I will always hover over links to view urls before the right index finger engages, I'm certain many of you do not, and I immediately see that links are pointing to some other website.
Why am I so pissed ? Because some idiot years ago solving the problem of unique user names for login credentials came up with the idea of hey, why not impose the use of email addresses as a unique identifier ? and so everyone followed this stupid idea tailored for stupid people who have trouble either creating a user name or remembering the user name they created for a site previously registered.
My gmail address is used as my user login at LinkedIn. Now I am being flooded with spam because my user login being my email address is now available to the public. This is along with the other 20 or so recipients whose first name starts with the letter S.

A special Android application will intrude on privacy on a daily basis. London’s Queen Mary University decided to carry out a research into how people value their own personal information. Within the frames of this research, the volunteers agreed to install a free Android application on their mobiles.
At first, this application will ask the volunteers some basic information about their background. Later, it will ask for more details every day over the next 2 weeks. The university claims that this will emulate the kind of data Internet companies are collecting from their users daily. The questions that the app will ask are intrusively private, but the kind of answers apps can take from user behaviour which is taken for granted – for example, what the user is doing, how he feels about what he is doing, where he is, who he is with, and how much the data would be worth to him. Everyone knows that this kind of data is given away for free, on the Internet, on a daily basis.
The leader of the research, Dr. Bernadette Kamleitner from the School of Business and Management, claimed that personal data is a huge but poorly regulated business. Despite the fact that the consumers are able to benefit from the use of their data through receiving customized offers that may be interesting for them, others can also use their private details to make money.
Queen Mary University hopes that that the research will help them understand which information people believe is more or less valuable to them. In addition, the results would show whether people really believe that personal data has no price or not.

OK my boring tech piece for the weekend
This is the type of tech to look out for. Around the corner is a small device able to project a screen and accept voice activated commands which serves as your phone, destop/ laptop etc....
I think that would be a great thing because all those noisy mobile phone users would have to face a wall to project the image on to. Outdoor cafes may become a pleasurable pastime again ;)
No more debates about Apple bringing out a 7" iWhatever please.

KL Sentral Building on Fire
For anyone living in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia please keep clear of KL Sentral. From my high rise condominium in Taman Desa I am watching a building near the Hilton Hotel with the entire top 2 floors on fire. No Fire Department Helicopters dousing the building in sight.
For anyone outside of Malaysia I can tell you it is not a terrorist attack. Just another result of the inefficiency of this country's emergency services to respond to anything in a timely manner.
6.40 am here and unfortunately I don't have access to a camera. Perhaps someone else reading this can film it and get it on youtube.

Makes perfect sense. I should practise this more often.
I'm not a blogger or have some fancy shmancy web page to link to with a nice laid out article. I'm a guy who has a thought and then like to share it. So I got to thinking just now after seeing this market share image and about Google and what this Creative Kit for making yourself look like a ghoul was all about and kaaabbliinggg the light bulb above my head lit up.
These guys at Google are going after everything and I mean everything, Creative Kit, as I see it, is just a forerunner to a Google type of Adobe Creative Suite delivered as a SaaS model.
I see a lot of commentary about Facebook, Twitter et al should be scared but I think there are other players like Adobe that should be just as scared.
There are enough writers here that could take this piece up and do it justice and place it on their site and make money from ad revenue, (pardon the dig at you guys). So I leave it up to you .......
If I'm talking garbage or this topic has been covered somewhere before then OK brickbats are fine. But on the other hand .....
