Google+: ik heb besloten een wat afwachtende houding aan te nemen.
Er zijn een aantal features die ik wel interessant vind, maar ik wil nog even bekijken hoe het zit met privacy en koppelingen naar andere social media en zoekmachines.

Waar ik al enigszins op afknapte is het feit dat ik 49 foto's aantrof op mijn kersverse Google+ account terwijl ik nog niets had geüpload. Zelfs geen profielfoto. Alle plaatjes die ik ooit eens had uitgeprobeerd - EN VERWIJDERD! - als achtergrond op mijn blog waren door Google aan mijn account gehangen. Ik word al niet goed van het feit dat dat allemaal wordt opgeslagen. Laat staan dat ik al die prut op die manier weer tegen kom.

Verder heb ik de indruk dat het mijn zoekresultaten bij de Google zoekmachine beïnvloedt. Daar baal ik nog het meest van! Ik wil graag zo neutraal mogelijke informatie uit een zoekopdracht, zonder dat daar allerlei filters tussen hangen waar ik niet om gevraagd heb. En waarvan ik nog niet weet of en hoe ik dat uit kan zetten.

Om vergelijkbare redenen heb ik ook mijn Facebook account op een laag pitje staan. Krijg ik allemaal meldingen als een nichtje aangeeft dat ik haar tante ben. Om iets te kunnen zien daarover, moet ik akkoord gaan met allerlei voorwaarden die er op neer komen dat ik al mijn gegevens overhandig aan de een of ander club. Nee, dank je wel.

Blijkt dat ik met het verwijderen van alle plaatjes op Google+, alles dat ik heb gebruikt op mijn blog heb verwijderd. Er staan nu prachtige kruisjes. :( Dat wordt dus weer uploaden. Ik word hier zo blij van.........

Google+ moet wat mij betreft wachten tot de vakantie (over 1 week :) ). Er gebeuren in combinatie met mijn"Google-phone" = Samsung Nexus zo veel bijzondere dingen, dat ik uitgebreid in de privacy functies wil duiken voor ik verder ga. De foto's van mijn mobiel stonden spontaan op Google+. Een vinkje dat ik inmiddels heb weggehaald. Een vinkje dat ik mogelijk zonder te weten wat het was heb geplaatst, maar toch. Ik wil zelf de controle hebben over wat er de wereld in gaat en wat niet.

Toch lastig dat op mijn Google Nexus alles gekoppeld is. Nadat ik vorige week alle foto's van mijn blog heb laten verdwijnen, was ik nu alle contacten uit Goolge+ kwijt. Daarom zijn dus een aantal mensen voor de tweede keer toegevoegd.

Na een testperiode van 4 maanden heb ik een aardig idee van die Android-apps die ik wil gebruiken. Daarom vatte ik het plan op de mobiel nieuw te installeren, zodat ik alle ander troep er af kon halen. Een schone installatie. Eerst sync met MyPhoneExplorer. Even dubbele contacten deleten en weer verder. Dom dom dom. Tja dat was hem weer. Delete ik dus alle Google+ contacten.

Mogelijk moet ik me wat leren inhouden als het gaat om de deleteknop. Maar ik houd nu eenmaal van opruimen. (niet huishoudelijk... )

In deze tijd worden per jaar 20 miljoen baby's te vroeg geboren. 4 miljoen daarvan sterven. De baby's die overleven hebben vaak levenslange gezondheidsproblemen. Vaak zijn in ontwikkelingslanden geen couveuses beschikbaar om deze baby's warm te houden. Maar er zijn ook andere relatief eenvoudige en betaalbare middelen die veel baby's kunnen redden.

Of deze technieken ooit worden gebruikt om blinden zelfstandig te laten rijden weet ik niet. Zelf vrees ik dat dat de veiligheid in het verkeer niet vergroot. Je moet zeg maar blind vertrouwen op de techniek. Gaat wat ver geloof ik.

Waarom duurt dat allemaal zo lang?

Is de belastingdienst de grootste sponsor van de TNT-post?

Al met al zal ik nog tot ver in 2012 post krijgen over het belastingjaar 2009. In totaal zal dat op meer dan 50 poststukken uitkomen. Ik vind dat bizar. Het lijkt me dat de belastingdienst, de staat, dus wij met z'n allen hier enorm op zouden kunnen besparen. TNT-post is zelfstandig, het lijkt me niet dat we die hoeven te sponseren.

Omdenken.nl: Het kantelen van de situatie door één enkele vraag “Op welke wijze geraken we hier samen uit mijnheer?” Goed verhaal!

Als ik stukken gelezen heb onder Stream, dan verberg ik ze met de Mute-knop in het menu.
Hoe je ze weer in beeld zou kunnen brengen weet ik niet, maar dat is ook niet zo erg. Wat grappig is dat als ik alles "geMute" heb en ik open Stream op mijn Andoid (Google+ app) dan krijg de volgende melding te zien:

De Andoid-app heeft Mute kennelijk nog niet helemaal begrepen, :-)

Is de islamofobie van nu niet gebaseerd op de “single story” van islamieten die hun vrouwen slaan, homoseksuelen vermoorden, mensen stenigen voor vreemd gaan en vliegtuigen in het WTC storten. Is de haat van de Taliban niet alleen gebaseerd op de “single story” over westerlingen die varkens eten, alcohol drinken, onrein zijn en verder nog van alles doen wat niet deugt.

The soil beneath the Cemetery Church of All Saints in Sedlec, Czech Republic embraces a macabre sight. In the shadow of the Baroque church that looms above it a flight of steps descends into the earth and leads to a small, cruciform chamber where vaulted ceilings, candelabras and even large pyramids are richly decorated in what would normally be considered a charming and bijou little locale. But it is most definitely not charming, as upon entering, it quickly becomes apparent that the interior designer was going for a rather ‘gruesome’ look. Housed within the chapel are the bones of 40,000 human corpses, and it is these skeletal remains that make up the chapel’s decorations.

A large and elaborate chandelier dominates the central space. Like the other ornamentations it is entirely made up of human remains; femurs, skulls, scapulas and vertebrae combine intricately in an elaborately grisly, nightmarish centrepiece that would not be out of place in Jeffrey Dahmer’s apartment 213. In a nod to macabre completionists, the chandelier uses at least one of every single bone in the human body.

Around the chapel, thousands of skulls stare out at the visitor with blank orbits, their pale features long parted from their mandibles. Pelvic sections make up the petals of skeletal flowers while bony chalices inhabit shallow niches. Festively looping chains of bone are draped from the vaulted ceiling like bunting at a village fete. Arcing lines of skulls accomplish a similar effect over the gateways to the ‘pyramids’, each of which occupies a side of the chapel’s transepts. Essentially huge mounds of bones and skulls, the pyramids would be gruesome reminders of mortality anywhere else on the planet, yet here, surrounded by similar deathly objects, they seem curiously normal.

The infamous Black Death and the later Hussite Wars (many of the skulls not used in the ossuary for decorative purposes show evidence of battle wounds) caused many thousands of people to be interred in the church’s grounds and eventually meant the cemetery had to be greatly enlarged. Some time around 1400 a lower chapel was excavated to be used as an ossuary for the bones unearthed from the mass graves that were uncovered during building work. Centuries later, in 1870, a local artisan named František Rint was employed by the Schwarzenberg family to establish some order to the piles of skeletal remains. Rint chose to go one step further and he created this bizarre work, even recreating the Schwarzenberg coat-of-arms and his own signature using the bones.

Raised in Vancouver and Toronto, Severn Cullis-Suzuki has been camping and hiking all her life. When she was 9 she started the Environmental Children's Organization (ECO), a small group of children committed to learning and teaching other kids about environmental issues. They were successful in many projects before 1992, when they raised enough money to go to the UN's Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro. Their aim was to remind the decision-makers of who their actions or inactions would ultimately affect. The goal was reached when 12 yr old Severn closed a Plenary Session with a powerful speech that received a standing ovation.

Opmerkelijk:
Heb gisteren al mijn cirkels gedelete, omdat ik een nieuwe indeling wil maken. Maar de mensen die ik had komen wel nog steeds in mijn stream voor. De trein rijdt letterlijk dwars door de markt

De Maeklong Railway Market is een unieke markt die letterlijk elke dag wordt gehouden op het spoor van het stadje Samut Songkhram, bijgenaamd Maeklong. Vlak voordat de trein in Maeklong aankomt moeten de standhouders hun producten van het spoor halen en de luifels van de marktkramen terugtrekken. Zodra de trein weer vertrokken is wordt alles weer teruggezet. Op de spoorlijn die Samut Sakhon met Samut Songkhram (Maeklong) verbindt rijdt acht keer per dag [zeven dagen per week] de trein midden door de markt.
Maeklong ligt 70 kilometer ten zuidwesten van Bangkok.

On 10 October, 2010, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) staff members in more than 100 countries worldwide took part in a collaborative film project to document the work of UNDP. For many, this was their first time using a video camera.
The result of their collaborative efforts is an 8 minute film highlighting the breath of UNDP's impact. It offers a glimpse into the daily operations of country offices across the globe, showcasing what UNDP does and how it manages its global partnerships. The film also highlights the diversity of cultures with which UNDP works and emphasizes the particular UN priority issues and Millennium Development Goals that UNDP addresses.
The finished product, entitled "UNDP's One Day on Earth," takes on the form of a collage, capturing unprecedented video snapshots from every country on earth in a 24-hour period. In total, 16,000 filmmakers from over 190 countries helped to document the countless stories of triumph, tragedy, hope and fear that take place in the world each day.

My very good friend +Jacob Boehm has been traveling in Southeast Asia all summer and contacting his parents by phone or email nearly every day. But they haven't heard from him since 6 days ago, nighttime (Malaysia time) of Sunday, August 14, and his gmail account hasn't been accessed during this time.
He was last seen in Jerantut, Pahang District, Malaysia.

His parents are working with the US and German Embassies in Malaysia, and have escalated to a missing persons case.

Does anyone know how we might help track down Jacob? Please re-share this post with people who live or are traveling in Malaysia, or just +mention them in the comments below. If you re-share privately, please +mention me so I can see responses (make sure you get the right Kimberly Johnson!).

In de rss reader "Netvibes" (http://www.netvibes.com/nl) krijg je ook de afbeeldingen van een geplaatste video te zien. Volgens mij is dat wat je bedoelt.
Ik heb hieronder een schermafbeelding van jouw berichten in netvibes gemaakt. Ik heb net een RSS feed van mijn Google+ posts op mijn blog gezet. Het bestaat dan alleen uit tekst. Ik weet niet of het goed geup-date wordt. Wel is me duidelijk dat de eerste zin uit de post een treffende tekst moet zijn. Anders slaat de feed op het blog nergens op. Zeer cryptisch zal ik maar zeggen. http://anjawessels.blogspot.com/

Bill Nighy, Christian McKay and Gemma Arterton star in a short film by Stephen Poliakoff and Charles Sturridge about some of the extraordinary species recently found around the world. It has been made to celebrate the wildlife charity WWF's 50th anniversary and is released in the UK on 29 July

A deep-sea fish with a transparent head and tubular eyes

MBARI researchers Bruce Robison and Kim Reisenbichler used video taken by unmanned, undersea robots called remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) to study barreleye fish in the deep waters just offshore of Central California. At depths of 600 to 800 meters (2,000 to 2,600 feet) below the surface, the ROV cameras typically showed these fish hanging motionless in the water, their eyes glowing a vivid green in the ROV's bright lights. The ROV video also revealed a previously undescribed feature of these fish--its eyes are surrounded by a transparent, fluid-filled shield that covers the top of the fish's head.

It is possible to make text bold, italic or to strike through. (see image below) I'd also like to be able to underline text, or to enlarge text. Don’t think that’s possible.

Another feature that might be nice is: being able to separately give the post a title. It would look good and it would give me more control over the text that people see in the RSS-feed on my blog.
The RSS-feed now shows the first text it finds in a post. I noticed that de RSS-feed stops “reading” at a : and a ! It’s possible to use that, but it’s not a great solution.

Any ideas?

Great interactive website. By Clicking on the species learn to identify the birds by their song as well as their appearance. You hear the sounds the birds make.

This weekend the RSPB is calling on the British public to spend an hour spotting and recording birds in local gardens and parks for its annual Big Garden Birdwatch.

The North Yungas Road (Road of Death), Bolivia (Part 1, pics)

The road connects the Bolivian capital of La Paz with the low-lying region of Yungas in the Amazonian rain forest. In order to do so the road must traverse the mighty Cordillera Oriental mountain chain. Starting from La Paz, the world's highest capital at 3,660 meters in altitude, Yungas road first climbs to 4,650 meters at at La Cumbre Pass, and then makes a steep descent to the town of Coroico, at an altitude of only 1200 meters. This drop of over 3650 meters is one of the longest stretches of continuous downhill road in the world.

Built in the 1930s by Paraguayan prisoners during the Chaco War, at places it was literally cut into the steep cliff side: One side of the road is solid rock, the other falls off into a 600-meter abyss. Most of the road is only 3.5 meters, wide and some sections are unpaved, without guardrails. Warm and humid winds from the Amazon hit upon the eastern slopes of Andes bringing heavy rains and fog drenching the already dangerous road in torrents of water. There are numerous mudslides and tumbling rocks, and small waterfalls occasionally rain down from the cliff sides.

Every year 200 to 300 people traveling this road get killed.

Modern egg master Franc Grom creates eggs which give Ferberge a run for his money. Grom uses a small electric drill to create approximately 2,500 to 3,500 holes in each eggshell. Inspired by traditional Slovenian designs, he has been known to pierce a shell as many as 17,000 times. They’re so fragile and beautiful. Imagine the patience!
