Negotiations -- A handler tries to persuade a Golden Eagle to step onto her glove so that she can take him to a feeding perch. The handler had first taken the eagle to a large boulder so that eagle could enjoy some sunshine and a higher vantage point, and the eagle was convinced that he needed more time on the boulder. But the promise of food eventually held sway, and the eagle obliged after several minutes of polite negotiations.
This photo was taken at the
Rocky Mountain Raptor Program Environmental Learning Center. The RMRP cares for more than 300 injured birds every year, and of those birds that are treatable about 80-88% are later released back into the wild. But because this particular eagle's wing had been permanently damaged, he will be housed at the program's facilities as an "Educational Ambassador". Though unable to fly, he is still a magnificent bird with all his raptor instincts intact. You can find out more about the program here:
http://www.rmrp.org/This is a bit of a re-post and I apologize for that, but I had a bit of a SNAFU with Picasa a few weeks ago that resulted in over half of my previous G+ posts disappearing from the web. As a result, I may be selectively re-posting some of my favorites over time. Hope you don't mind... :)
