Just joined Google Plus . So far, easy to use, and has everything you need. True to Google style, it is simple! I love the idea of Circles.

This picture just makes me want to rejoice for all good things in life, even though they are always enter-mixed with the unpleasant things. The picture gives the feeling that in the rejoicing is a sense of overcoming, no? Today, think about what you have to rejoice about.

I noticed that a lot of the same people are in each others' circles. Based on that observation, I think I am going to have to, either be careful about sharing or only share with certain circles. That also means I am going to have to stay up on my circles, at least for the time being. Just thinking out loud.

Millions of new users will be joining Google+ in the coming days. The doors are finally open. Google's home page invites everyone (over age 18) to try this service out. But for a new user, whether you have a "best thing since sliced bread" experience or a "ghost town" experience, depends on learning a few simple things and applying them.

Early Google+ users remember how fun it was to discover new features, shortcuts, and tips, and share them with each other. At one point, 120 users collaborated and compiled a Google doc that contained the best tips. There is a link to it below.

Check this out about FB's new Timeline changes. Something to be concerned about?

Well, I triggered my new Facebook Timeline via the Developer route... an hour and a half later, and I'm not hugely happy with it so far, specifically around privacy. My head is spinning!! I'm not digging the two-column layout. And, I'm certainly not digging that every single piece of content I ever posted/shared/liked, place I checked in to, event I attended, group I joined etc. etc. is all displayed. Now, I'm drilling deep to triple check privacy settings... and am deleting old stuff, old pics, before publishing my Timeline. Dangit, this is work!!

I want to delete some old rubbish from 2007 but am concerned that'll trigger an activity into my current feed?! Probably not, but still. I can see that I will be revising (yet again) my approach to using my Facebook profile for personal activity. I know this latest mega round of changes is designed to almost subconsciously entice users to share more and more and more... from birth onwards, adding in milestones and life events along the way. Well, much as I certainly like the idea of having my own interactive autobiography - even if I had much of my historical data set to be visible by only me - I'm just not hugely eager to dish it all up to Facebook. Yes, I love the platform and always will. I'm just saying, these changes are causing me to be even more cautious about what I post, how I engage on the site, and what apps I use.

Plus, since I decided to turn on my Subscribe button the other week, I notice this has drawn a lot of attention to my profile that wasn't there before. So, all Public content is fair game for anyone to surf through and comment/like.

For example, I'm seeing an increase in foreign guys liking a whole bunch of my photos at a time... which clogs up my notifications. So, I thought I'd go through and adjust the privacy settings of my photos/albums. I see that I had my default for all mobile photo uploads and all wall photos set to Public. You can't change the privacy of these two albums en masse, it has to be individual photos. And, if I change the privacy from Public to only Friends or even Only Me, can any non-friend who made a comment on the photo still see (and interact with) the photo?

Aha, from Facebook help: "Anyone who can see a post can see comments made on that post." I take that to mean if the audience is changed from Public to Friends, any non-friend cannot see the photo/post, even if they made a comment? But, this answer seems to contradict: "if you change the audience after you publish something this can’t prevent someone who already saw it from sharing it." https://www.facebook.com/help/?faq=233739099984085

Facebook does warn you that any tagged friend will always be able to view a photo, regardless of how you set the privacy for that photo. Oh, except for Only Me: https://www.facebook.com/help/?faq=240051956039320

Granted, there is the privacy option to "Limit the Audience for Past Posts" - which automatically changes ALL previous posts shared with more than friends (e.g. Public) to Friends. But, "people who are tagged and their friends may see those posts as well." Hmm, so then how does this Limit feature affect the new Subscribe option? If I were to convert all Public posts to Friends only, do all Subscribers (non-friends) suddenly not see anything?! :)

The CFPB is accepting feedback on the latest prototypes online.


Under federal law, borrowers closing on a mortgage are required to review two documents – the federal Truth in Lending Disclosure form and the HUD-1 Settlement statement.

The final prototypes combine these required documents into one, single mortgage disclosure form.


"The CFPB also is consolidating other new and current federal mortgage disclosure requirements – boiling down unnecessary paperwork by as much as 50 percent," the agency said in a press statement Tuesday.

The Parable of the Hot Dog Vendor

On the advice of his well-educated son, a hot dog vendor increased his prices, offered fewer choices for customers and moved to a "better" location. What do you think happened next? First, let me tell you the parable of the hot dog salesman and his son.

There once was an old hot dog salesman on Wall Street. Nothing stopped him from showing up on his street corner. Neither rain, nor scorching sun, nor bitter cold could stop him from selling his hot dogs from sun-up to sundown. He even worked weekends selling to tourists.

He saved all the money he made and helped put his son through college to get an MBA.
One day his son showed up at his father's hot dog cart, and he told his father that he was doing everything wrong. His business methods were out of date. Commodity prices were rising. The economy was dipping into a terrible recession. He explained to his father that he needed to make some changes immediately. “Oh my!” said the old man. “What should I do?” "Cut inventory immediately," suggested the son. “Just carry one kind of hot dog. And stop giving away free mustard & ketchup with each hot dog and move to a better location.”

The old man did as he was told. But things didn’t work out too well. Needless to say, people like having a choice of kosher, polish, ball park and extra long hot dogs. No one charges for condiments. And the new location was terrible! The hot dog vendor went out of business.

The moral of the story is this: Have confidence in yourself, and if something doesn’t make sense to you, question it! Experience trumps theoretical business plans any day.

In the 1960s Lyndon Johnson illustrated a correlation between homeownership and accountability by stating, “Owning a home can increase responsibility and stake out a man’s place in his community…The man who owns a home has something to be proud of and reason to protect and preserve it.”
More than 50 years later, that statement is still true.
There are many reasons to take pride in homeownership such as:
1.) Appreciation - Buying a home now (at the current rates) can almost ensure your home’s appreciation in the future.
2.) Property Tax Deductions - For income tax purposes, real estate property taxes for a vacation home and first home are fully deductible.
3.) Preferential Tax Treatment - If you own your home for more than a year and receive more profit than the allowable exclusion after the sale of your home, the profit will be considered a capital asset.
4.) Equity Building - A new trend being used by some homeowners is to actually add money to their monthly payment to decrease the principal balance of their loans at a much faster pace.
5.) Pride - Homeownership is a purchase, commitment, and journey that’s sure to bring you pride.

Success tip: Take 5-10 minutes at the end of each day and do a "brain dump." Review what went right, what went wrong. What you should do more and less of. Then put one thing into practice the next day. Imagine how great you would be in a year if you improved just 1/10th of 1% each day. Success is the result of small steps.

Many homes that were backed by subprime mortgages are now being sold in foreclosure. They aren't in nearly as good condition as when they were last bought, and are selling for less than if they had been properly maintained. Because the Case-Shiller index is based on repeat sales, such homes may be biasing it downward.

Moreover, the Case-Shiller index is based on a three-month average of sales, so its November level includes transactions that were completed in October and September.

Consider that it takes about two months between a sale and a closing (often longer with mortgage hassles these days), and you are talking about deals agreed on in the summer, when recession fears filled the air.

Things now look better. Home prices probably do, too.

Zuck may have to pay $2 billion in taxes.

Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg retained an unusually large percentage stake in a company IPO with an unusually large valuation. As a result, he may be facing an unusually large tax bill.

Zuck is facing a federal tax rate of 35%, and a California state income tax of 10.3%.

Facebook has already said that Zuck will need to exercise a boatload of options to raise money to pay his taxes.

Experts estimate that he'll end up paying $1.5 to $2 billion in taxes this year.
